Well, it's the map for a campaign setting I'm working on for my friends. I need to put the time in to finish writing up a history, I've probably done things in the wrong order by deciding the background and presence of the countries first.



Which could use a more natural looking touch up. And maybe a more long-winded effort to add some translucent layers for specific political borders.

Hello art thread.. Frankly I can't draw, but I am currently embarking on a creative writing course, naturally I want to write not.. fantasy fiction, but .. Well.. Imagine Howl's Moving Castle.. That sort. Either way!

I thought i'd do a world map.. And was curious to whether it looks too.. clunky or generic? You may have to right click and view image to see the whole thing..



The main story line is set on the middle continent in the Casorian Empire that once spanned the entire globe and is now reduced to a dying state. I'm also aware the name 'Oryndiil' is close to 'Cyrondiil' Infact if Oryndiil had a c in it it'd be an anagram.. I did not notice this until compiling a wikia full of monarchs, presidents and country profiles.. All referencing the damn name. So I thought screw it.. It's not like I willingly copied the damn thing..

Cause I like papyrus! I never assumed i'd be showing people.. The Wikia is full of stolen royal portraits.. It's just all for me to use as reference haha..

And oh god it does.. It sounds like a Pokemon/Dinosaur.

Oh right I see. And hahah it's fine. :p I really like most of the names honestly!! Oryndiil, Shanaei ... now I'm intrigued by all this and I want to know more the story of the place.

And sorry, but I wouldn't know anything about genericness because I don't often read like fantasy novels and stuff. But maybe something to consider is to look at how earth looks like? All the continents can sort of "fit" together in a jigsaw kind of puzzle thing, so you could model Oryindiil after the continental drift theory thing maybe?

I did the same thing about 6 months ago but had to stop due to being too busy! I got as far as drawing a map, lands, descriptions of lands and characters I'd follow. When I was looking up advice on how to get started it said just pump loads into your pre-writing so you know every stone and tree in your land and then build your story from there. It is a lot of fun so good luck!
