9. Adenah Thorgint: Feverish Nightmare
A deformed face haunted her, the visage gaunt and pale. Gruesome black eyes and a gaping hole as a mouth. Hair that was purely formed out of the blackest shadows she had ever seen. The voice whispering without lips moving, speaking of horrors and terrors.
“They'll all perish, they'll all fall to my will”
“None of them will be able to resist.”
“I will come for them.”
“The shadows will take them”
It lunged at her, a clawlike hand stabbing forward but instead of feeling pain the creature dispersed into a cloud and vanished. Leaving the girl twirling around on her feet. The was nothing but darkness, was she in a room? Or perhaps a forest? A field? All she knew is that she had to start running, try and find a way out.
Her path was endless, nothing changed for what seemed hours but were only mere minutes. Then the shapes started to swarm in around herself. Images and faces she knew yet all looking lost and distant.
There was her mother, a shade with the most horrific features she had ever seen. Skin shredded and torn to create a woman that looked more like a monster than the caring being she had been. Her father with Sky and a screaming infant. Wicked and dark grins upon their faces while hovering around her. Their cackles felt so surreal the colours around her shifting into a malevolent and eerie way that caused her head to spin.
The blur of darkness coiled around her, screams starting to echo inside her mind. Timna within reach yet when she extended her hand she only touched a cold cloud. Ripping and tearing at corpses of which the faces couldn't be indentified any longer. At the sideline there was Jarren, she recognised him only by the fierce red colour of his hair but the rest seemed too foreign and alien. He looked like some demon, something otherworldly. Pure malice shown in his pitchblack eyes and by his side stood a radiant beauty. Yet upon closer inspection she was yet another deformed shadow, her hands clinging around Jarren to reveal her hold on him. Her utter dominion of her lover that she claimed her own.
Adenah wanted to run, she could feel her head pounding with the quickly changing scenes, they kept coming at her in a dizzy pace. Making her turn left and then right, and then back again untill she fell. Their hands were all reaching for her, beckoning in the most surreal sounding voices she had ever heard. Wanting to scream but the cold seemed to have cut off her airsupply, leaving her choking and gagging.
Flashes before her eyes, red, black, white, black, red, constantly changing. Sudden music, slow and creeping. Haunting her while the undead ghosts and demons that were supposed to resemble her family and loved ones crowded in around her. Looming with hands ready to tear her apart or pull her with them into the black pit appearing in the distance that reeked of rotten stench and shadow.
----------------------------------------------
“Ade, wake up...”
The voice seemed too far away to be heard properly, as if she was submerged under water and sitting at the bottom of a lake. A cold washed over her, feeling the wet and soaked sheets of her bed clinging around her damp frame. But she didn't wake up. Her stirring and kicking calming down with her breathing becoming less panicked. Still held within the hold of the fever wrecking down on her tired body.
