7. Adenah Thorgint: Nightmare to dreams.
The Highlands looked nothing like they did several years ago, the fields and mountains in the distance carried the taint of plague and on the border the wall had fallen. A crumbled pile of stone all that remained from the once mighty structure that had kept them safe. Ruins were scattered across the gray-looking hills, a depressive scenery for all those that had closed their homeland within their heart.
But only few still lingered to see, too many had fallen over the years of resistance against the raging forces of the Forsaken. The hopes and strenght off the armies slowly being crushed under the pressure of the determined masses of undead.
One by one they fell, bit by bit the lands became corrupted by their machinery and their blighted existance. Even the Alliance had given up hope and retreated back down to the south to protect the lands untouched, leaving Arathi to its own fate.
Amongst all this destruction her home remained, standing strong in the middle of wartorn land. Defended fiercely and with all power she could muster. For long it had not been the target of their assaults, but now it was a thorn in their eyes. Another target to be destroyed and claimed. Adenah could not stand and watch how these wretched creatures would take what belonged to her lost family. For years she had refused to leave the Thorgint homestead and farm, did not give in to the pressure of seeking safety. This was where she had finally found a home, had a family. Wars had taken all that away from her and she had lived years of hardship, alone.
These years had not treated the once kindhearted and gentle mage well, her sorrow was etched within each wrinkle on her face. Scar littered across her skin granting her a coarse and crude appearance. Standing near-fragile looking with grim features and grey-streaked strands of hair held back by a single red headband framing her aged face.
But they came, in large numbers, at last. Determined to claim the whole lands of Arathi as their own. Expand their tainted kingdom. And she stood alone, the feeling of it tore her heart nearly assunder. She had nobody that would fight with her, nobody by her side to encourage her to keep going. Yet the fierce willpower shone within her cold gaze still.
“I will atleast take half of you with me ... mag'oths”
There was no fire, not a single spark of arcane rising from her hands. Instead the area surrounding the woman shimmered in a deep crimson hue. Vials levitating as the coiling blood started flowing out of their containers. Muttering her spell with great confidence and skill while her sorrow and rage guided her to defend the last beacon standing. The remnants of the family she clung onto over the past years, those that had given her the willpower to defend and stand her ground. Refusing to be taken down easily.
The scene became blurry, the violent spells shooting towards the encroaching forces as she stood vigilant against them. Her tribal-crafted attire sweeping around her legs by the forces of the called energies. Many of them fell by her hand before they could even come close enough to land a single strike, but even her spells were to no avail to prevent the inevitable. At the back of their ranks a purple glooming figure had prepared himself to strike, waiting for the waves of slaughter to distract Adenah before his spell hurled forward to reign destruction upon the aged body of the Blood-magan resisting them.
Red winds exploded before everything went utterly silent and she smiled at them, the expression revealing her relief. The end of her torment, yet pride glowing inside the hollowed sockets of her eyes. She had managed to live, keep herself going. She had mastered what was given to her by her Uncle. Proven herself worthy to be called a Thorgint and she had defended her home, Arathi with everything she could without faltering once. She was ready now, to finally take her place within the Halls. Take her place amongst those who's presence she had craved for too long.
At final last, Adenah could truly go home.
A warm soothing embrace lifted her out of her tired and worn body. Broken in the middle of the bloodied soil infront of the house on the hill. Carried her up to the sudden sunlight above her. An astonishing view of great beauty greeted her deep within the clouds, a blinding white before she could finally see it.
The large ornamented doors and walls of the purest, virgin-white. Everything glowing and beckoning her like an undeniable force sucking her in. Everything she had felt during the last years of her life had been lifted off her shoulders, all her burdens left behind with her dead body.
It felt as if a wind guided her onwards, past the doors that swung open to grant her entrance to the fabled and craved final resting place of all those before her. Home of the Ancestors, Halls of where everybody would be gathered, the place she had longed for since the day she had wept over the loss of everyone on the fields of battle.
And there they stood, a row infront of her to welcome her back amongst them. She could not take her eyes off them, they all looked exactly as she had remembered them yet not entirelly the same. Everything that had given them hardships in life seemed to have been removed from them aswell, there was nothing but happiness on their expressions. It left her breathless for a moment, waves of emotions washing over her yet the most prominent one being satisfaction. She had done well and being stood here speechlessly was proof that her deeds didn't come unrewarded.
His voice was suddenly so close to her, warm and comforting like only a father's voice could. The large hulking figure reaching his arms out to hold his daughter against him with a proud smile upon his face. The smile she had wished to see so often ever since he had left. By his side was of course Sky, nodding once at Adenah like she always did. A woman of little words if it came to expressing her approval but it was more then visible within her eyes.
One by one the others came to welcome her personally themselves. She returned their hugs eagerly, whispering words of affection to each of them, being given the same in return. She remained within the arms of her mother for aslong as she could, feeling the same soothing of her arms around her like she used to as a child. Her voice reaching her even softer and gentle then she had remembered and she nearly felt reluctant to let go. But she moved nonetheless, there was plenty of time remaining after this to be with her.
Orthur held her in a one-armed embrace and reached a hand out to Adenah's head to point at, speaking only a single word to her before nodding once while a tear runs down his aged visage.
“Thor ...”
Turning her around to face the other way without giving her a chance to reply to him she could feel the meaning of just that one word, a smile wide on her face while the warmth didn't stop spreading within her chest, she was reunited with her family.
And there he stood, right infront of her with the cheeky and beaming smile that had haunted her every night, and even after all the years of separation and being apart she could feel that leap within her chest of the love that hadn't died during the time. Exactly the same as he used to be, young and energetic while she had grown older yet the sight of him awakened something she thought was long gone and forgotten. The feeling of her own youth, be it by seeing her lost love or simply the overwhelming emotions of reunion she couldn't tell...
But when Jarren finally reached out for her, as if he had waited all this time for this specific day, and kissed her lips while holding her she felt as if nothing had ever mattered. Only this moment and nothing else would ever matter again.
“Do midor dek Midor ... I've been keeping a seat fer ye..”
He grinned at her eagerly, pulling her by her waist while the others followed. An arm coming around her neck when she saw Faralan smiling down to her with a single, all-knowing nod.
In the dark Adenah's eyes flung open, staring up at the invisible ceiling with quick ragged breaths. She could feel how she had been sweating and the wetness of tears had left her cheeks stained. Yet her lips slowly formed a smile, trying to calm herself from the dream that she just had. As always he was there, already reaching out to pull her close without a single word leaving his lips, he knew that she'd talk to him once she felt she could. So for now Adenah simply took comfort in his soothing touch, rolling herself against him while letting the scene replay once more inside her head. A mixture of emotions raging, if her dream was only remotely to reality once that day would come. She'd pull strenght out of the knowledge shown to her.

Really well written, an image of an aged Adenah is something that interests me. Perhaps this'll become a reality, well the Blood Magic, anyway

That'll be something brought forward in the near future aye, she has chosen to learn it to protect and now has been shown a dream where she masters it to defend aswell. The reasons in "reality" might not be there but the dreams have shaken quite some emotions for her.
