you're a fan of crystal castles right? that track is quite similar to them, but better ofc.Shaelyssa wrote:Very nice
this song is like David Bowie playing indie disco on LSD in a flamboyant gay night club. listen out for the amazing falsetto note in the chorus.

one of the greatest hip-hop outfits ever. every single album they've released is consistently amazing and relevant, and just fresh - all of their albums build upon something new. hip-hop thats just completely segregated from any trends or labelling (boom-bap, southern hip-hop whatever)Feydor wrote:the roots are fuckin awesome, wasn't expecting this poem at the end of the album

Hey, my dad asked me what I was listening to and I said that I was listening to a song from a game that I played on Playstation 2. He said it sounded very nice.Corleth wrote:adults? or people with semi-decent taste in music?

Re: The music you listen to!
Seriously, you say Game music is bad, and childish? What makes music childish?
Really, what does? Sure, some songs may be targeted towards kids, but music is music, it's meant to be enjoyed when listened too- and there are some damn good scores in video games, I prefeer game music to standard music mostly due to the fact that there's more emphasis on the feel of the music rather than just being a specific genre.
Kraid's Lair from Metroid is a master piece, it uses TWO LINES of Midi. TWO FUCKING LINES, and you know what? It sounds great!
There's amazing video game music, if you cannot accept that then I question if you even understand the concept of music.
Putting spoiler not to spam:
If something is truly worth calling fucking EPIC, then it's the dedication some people put down into the music of these games we played and enjoyed. Truly, these are masterpieces which are certainly worth enjoying.

Re: The music you listen to!
nah, i never said that. there is great music in game soundtracks, but most music thats made specifically for a game is shit-tier. especially if its that dumb midi or chiptune crap.Quin wrote:Corleth for not recognizing some fantastic soundtracks in games
Alright, not the music of kids - the music of neckbeards. This kind of music should only be listened to while actually playing the video game. It cannot be appreciated on any aesthetic, emotional or intellectual beyond that. The bold part is just mind-numbingly stupefying it may just invalidate the entire list of music you posted.Coppersocket wrote:Sure, some songs may be targeted towards kids, but music is music, it's meant to be enjoyed when listened too- and there are some damn good scores in video games, I prefeer game music to standard music mostly due to the fact that there's more emphasis on the feel of the music rather than just being a specific genre.
I study it and write my own, i'm pretty sure I do.Coppersocket wrote:There's amazing video game music, if you cannot accept that then I question if you even understand the concept of music.

Re: The music you listen to!
So you set your narrow mind in a set of pretence that midi or game music in general music cannot be enjoyed by anyone aside from so called 'neckbeards'? Or is it perhaps the fact that YOU don't, for some reason, accept it as music because you're "mr.high and mighty" who believe your opinion is worth more than others (ie. A fucking troll)
By your wording, you deny that anyone beyond the players can appriciate music, even midi music- heck, I could probably even stretch it to say that you don't allow others to think unlike you if they're not gamers.
You 'study' music? Sure, you may be writing your own music, but honestly, who gives a rats arse? If you don't like it, fine. But don't go dragging it down, playing the card as if it's invalid music, like it's "bad" music.
The music doesn't get any worse because it is taken out of context, I've listened to a lot of game music that I do not relate too, I've also listened to other types of music outside the gaming world which I usually don't listen too and find it appealing.
Music is made to be enjoyed, if it wasn't enjoyed, it would not be made. Simply because you 'believe' it's "shit", doesn't mean it is. People like things that are catchy, and a lot of music that becomes popular, even in games often are.
Sure, having a relevance to the music may alter your view of the song a bit, but it doesn't necessarily change your entire taste of music.
Disliking a certain genre, I can accept, disliking something just because it's related to something, however...
Edit: Also, if you wrote the linked song, it got a nice tone to it, love jazz.

Re: The music you listen to!
I do not think midi music or chiptune can appreciated by any one other than gamers that are either fans of the game, or feel nostalgia for a certain game. Even then, I think there are some objective qualities that make midi/chiptune music a lesser form of music.
- Lack of varied timbre
- No variation in instrumentation whatsoever
There is a distinction between midi/chiptune video game music and 'soundtracks' (i.e more composed music) written for video games. The latter have the capacity to be good, even if they often turn out cheesy as hell. Sadly, most music scored for video games are composed to correspond with themes, events or emotions in the video game and they are in turn, very cheesy too. The composed electronic music in video games is usually nothing out of the ordinary either, especially when its compared to IDM artists such as Boards of Canada.
I disagree entirely with the premise that 'music is made to be enjoyed' as well, thats only really true for pop music and other more mainstream genres.
I'm no Wayne Shorter though! I'm not a bad song-writer but if I could write music as legendary as his I wouldn't be arguing about chiptune music over a roleplaying forum.

Re: The music you listen to!
For what other reason would one listen music?..I disagree entirely with the premise that 'music is made to be enjoyed' as well, thats only really true for pop music and other more mainstream genres.
I enjoy Pink Floyd, I enjoy Primus, Kasabian, coldplay, The black keys and the list goes on. But I enjoy each in a different way. Some songs just cheer you up and but a bright tune in your head, whereas other songs make you think of things, which I find enjoyable. Then there's thr other kin of music where I just go 'what the f-..' at the lyrics and instrumentals most of the time: My personal favorite..
In the end we all listen music to enjoy us. Some listen to it to cheer up, others to drool at the awesomeness of a certain vocalist/instrumentalist, and yet others listen to it for the 'experience'. In the end our favorite music amuses us all.
