Oh of course, I know that article is probably a mis-representation of what they actually said. But that article isn't why I dislike them. I dislike them because they make terrible music.Delidah / Scuzy wrote:Blatantly misquoted, but I've already had this discussion a couple of times today and I aint doing it again.

*sigh* nope. I gotta.
They don't claim to have invented the music. They're just saying that their musical phisosophies share a lot of common grounds with those of dubstep, or at least the "bro-step" side of the spectrum. And that is rightfully so.
DJ Distance for example, one of "the first" dubstep producers, and the first one to blend it with more rocky vibes, was heavily influenced by bands like korn and limp bizkit.
Korn collaborating with dubstep producers makes perfect sense, and I personally quite like the album. It's nothing compared to the first four, but it's interesting, and at least 4 tunes on that album are good enough for me to include in my own shows.
Really all this rage against korn is unnescesary. They may be a little ill-informed and say stupid shit, but hey, so do 'Dem westcoastahs.

It's a good thing I don't listen to Snoop Dog then! Looking at comments on Narcissistic Cannibal, I can see alot of fanbois just magically having been secretly listening to dubstep all this time.

They probubly already where. The energy in the music is very comparable, I've been preaching that for years. The big dubstep raves over here [nl] feel more like metal concerts then dance nights.

Re: The music you listen to!
I doubt it. The people I'm thinking of are the people that delibratly do not listen to music that isn't metal. A comment like "we're supposed to oppose them not join them" sums it up. Though I agree, I've seen similarities between electro/dubstep and metal before. I still think the new songs are bad though, but at least I'm being honest :d

This is the reason I try to avoid dubstep. It attracts a weird kind of people o___oDelidah / Scuzy wrote:They probubly already where. The energy in the music is very comparable, I've been preaching that for years. The big dubstep raves over here [nl] feel more like metal concerts then dance nights.
I generally dislike the 140+ BPM dubstep that tries to sound like the bowels of the earth. I prefer the calmer kind. Also the stuff Quin likes is generally pure liquid musical gold. although he's been slacking in this thread wtf
ps: I want to name my baby gabriel

The calmer and the rougher kind are about the same bpm range. That's kind of the thing with dubstep; it's 140 bpm. Even this:Nithel wrote:I generally dislike the 140+ BPM dubstep that tries to sound like the bowels of the earth. I prefer the calmer kind.
Aldranin:
If you like mashups, you should check out the following artsist:
Girl Talk: Takes it to the extreme, combining snippets and riffs from popular music to create new compositions.
Hong Kong Ping Pong: Combine contemporary music like Fidget, Dance, Dubstep and Glitch hop with vocals and riffs from raggae, folk and balkan kind of swags.
T-Mus: Plays DJ sets that involve absolutely crazy combinations that somehow work.
Eclectic Boogaloo: My own brand of mashup music, travels from 100 bpm to 180 bpm in 40 minutes, touching all kinds of genres.

Re: The music you listen to!
That was really the important point in the sentence, not the BPM thing. I just slammed a nummer there. I know house is generally 120-130 and dubstep is 140+ I know nothing else of itDelidah / Scuzy wrote:Nithel wrote:I generally dislike the 140+ BPM dubstep that tries to sound like the bowels of the earth. I'm sure you catch my drift. I can't explain it with dubstep but I'll try to explain with house. There's a genre I love which is progressive house. It's generally around 128BPM but it feels a lot calmer than a counterpart within the genre like electro house which is also around 128BPM but feels a lot more busy. Like a lot more tunes are pressed together in one second.
I have no dj expertise at all and I don't pretend I ever will. It doesn't interest me much. But I hope you see my point

I know exactly what you mean. I've got a whoooole lot of more relaxed dubstep thingies. I like to use both in my gigs and try to have a proper buildup instead of just ruffhousing my way through. this is probubly the best example I have of it. That and my war of the worlds mix, ofcourse.
My favorite "dubstep" artist is probubly Eskmo:
A very sway-y relaxy glitchy sound, that has a little bit of oomph to it without loosing its sweetness.

Re: The music you listen to!
Some dubstep;
And some classic metal;
And to answer to the above about "shitty nu-metal" and dubstep; Music is opinionated, you like what you like, listen to what you like and then you don't listen to what you don't like. No-one else can do and/or change anything about that, nor should you give two shits if they don't like your music taste. If you get offended/pissed off when someone says "<insert band here> sucks", it makes you look stupid. And frankly, the ones who says "my opinion is better then yours!" end up looking absolutely pathetic. I listen to alot of music, I may not know bands from every genre, I can still sit down and listen to the song without knowing the band.
I don't listen to pop, rap, hip-hop and hardstyle techno. They just don't appeal to me. Most pop sounds the same to me and is often about the same thing (Insert broken love/party hard/I don't need you -song here). Rap I just can't get into. I can't do it, someone swearing and talking really fast in the microphone with two scantily dressed girls is not something I'd listen to. Techno makes my head hurt, just "BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM" with their loud bass and non-existant vocalists. People who thinks their opinion is worth more than any other needs to get their head out of their arse.
Also, Corleth, I'm noticing you using the word "pleb" alot. It's a very offensive term, so refrain from using it so freely/casually, 'kay? Thanks.

Ah yes, my bad. I forgot to type in "mainstream" pop. I don't know any bands/artists from the 80's pop scene. But, I do know one;

Also, look at this after that one while you're at it;

But no, you didn't hurt my feelings, even if I find it a offensive term. Just a friendly piece of advice, if you say the word to the wrong person, they might act aggressive, since there are people who take high offense to it (me including). People who get offended do stupid things without thinking first.Y'know, shoot first ask later kind of things. No harm done though.
Also, here's some good pop from my own hometown in Sweden:
And since I was in need of something relaxing since the fucking teacher sent a e-mail at 2 AM that the lesson was cancelled, I looked this one up. It's amazing.

Remind me to use the word plebeian more often. It rolls off the tongue like honey-sweetened tea.
