It's like a skeleton where you put on the meat and adjust it how you see fit.

Well, I used a reference pic (from a fashion shoot) for this quick scetch of Aneeta. I have always been better at drawing females.

that's some great linework there! Although I'd suggest that when using reference it's a good idea not to follow too closely. The style of Aneeta's clothes and her pose do indeed make her look like she is posing for a fashion shoot as opposed to relaxing or sitting :)

People use reference for all kinds of different reasons.. one reason I do is because I have a hard time remembering the finer details (earrings, certain colours etc.) While it is very useful, don't follow reference too rigidly. But most importantly carry on drawing as you seem to be getting the hang of it :)

To the person who asked about learning how to draw: What I do is that i try to stop seeing, for example a NOSE or a MOUTH or any other kinds of "hard" things. I try to just see shapes instead. I use a photo and measure between different shapes.
"Oh, a little black triangle there... a circle here... a grey kidney-like thingie over here..."
When you start thinking about shapes you will notice that you suddenly look at things in a very different way, it is really quite exciting.

But really, I'm not that good. I just bought a few pencils one day and sat down and tried it - and it worked. Artists aren't born, they're made. I've been walking around for 15 years now wishing I could draw instead of actually giving it a try. And now that I have started to do it I am amazed by my own development and can't BELIEVE how I can really draw!
So there's nothing more too it, really. Sit down and do it - everyone can draw.
