I really don't get self-proclaimed "anime haters". Just... I mean, it's like saying you hate books - no, scratch that, it's like saying you hate fiction in the form of text.

I'm not what you'd call an "anime fan" by any stretch. In total, I've watched 4 animes and read... 1 manga that I liked. I didn't like them because they were anime, I liked them because they were interesting stories, with plots and characters worth giving a damn about - and wether or not it's japanese-style animation or live-action, I just love Sci Fi action.

Anime isn't a genre. It's a medium for storytelling, nothing else. There's anime for children, there's anime for teenagers, there's medieval fantasy anime, there's sci fi anime, there's contemporary horror/crime drama anime, there's anime porn (In droves, by jove!) and all kinds of completley ordinary stories that have as their only unifying factor that they're animated in a very roughly "similar" style with Japanese or Korean cultural influence.

*takes a deep breath*

And as the recent Twilight-phenomenon has showed us, obsessive and distasteful fandoms are also not something unique to animes, but indeed a product of our generation's inherent obsessiveness with a number of liberal values and- You know what? I'll stop ranting before I pop a vein in my d**k, and leave it at "Don't judge a book by its cover, and don't judge a story by its medium".
