Re: Tzeentch's Thread of Everchanging Topics
Quoted from a scientific study:
Interestingly, cats that fell from 9 or more stories suffered fewer injuries than those falling from lower heights. Among cats that fell from 9 to 32 stories, only 5 per cent suffered fatal injuries, but 10 per cent of those that fell from 7 or fewer stories died

Aside from the fact that a cat who falls from a tree of 2-3 meters generally have time to twist. And that's less of a hight than from the second story of a building.Chareshía wrote:probably due to the length of time it takes em to twist and land on there feet

Gathered data of cats who fell? They do fall accidentally sometimes, you know.

Bleh, I want to see the method. Or the summary or discussion, whatever says IF they threw out the cats themselves D:<
I'd also like to know what 119 cats is out of the total number of cats that were at the vet (assuming he did the diagnosing).

*cry* My stupid univeristy isn't registered to that site, so i can only see the stupid abstract xD, but a further search seems to imply that the cats once found are brought to the university for check up. and its not because some phd student dropped cats from buildings unfortunately.
the wiki page says the possibe reasons might be that the cats relax after they've righted themselves, and thus are more relaxed when hitting the ground from higher altitudes...
or their is a discrepancy in the studies because not all dead cats aren't brought to the researchers during the research, messing up the statistics >.>
just a shame that people didnt push cats off buildings
haha found a turkish publication about 49 cats xD but i don't speak turkish and they only seem to list injuries as things vets need to look out for, and not the reasons why cats might have less severe injuries when falling from higher buildings

Re: Tzeentch's Thread of Everchanging Topics
I've heard or read the thing about the "relaxing". The bodies kinda... dislocate and let themselves go "splat". This doesn't happen below a certain height.
It's also possible (as you say) that the stats are quite skewed by the fact the researchers didn't bring the dead cats in (when they didn't know the cause of death, lots of tall buildings by road sides for instance?)
Edit: Fixed for clarity. And Amaryl, you've quoted yourself...

Re: Tzeentch's Thread of Everchanging Topics
the researchers did include the dead cats, but if they aren't told that a cat jumped and died they can't take it in their conclusion
since the study is about what kind of injuries cat suffers when falling of a building. and not why do cats survive higher falls.

exactly,.. I beleve from what i understand, its all about size and mass no?
meaning from what I have read a spider could fall of a plane and it would land saftly
eg an old citron c2 has a terminal velocity of 150 mph as said on topgear lol
