Mm, can't really be helped. And frankly, the place has enough advertisement as it is :p I'd be surprised if a lot of RP'ers aren't already aware of it. Nothing stops anyone from making another thread about it on the realm forum anyway.

Pay for the forum hosting, I think. It's what gets rid of the adds on most forums anyway.

No. They won't sticky anything that leads to a site with advertisements about gold on them. The advertisements beneath the banner, occasionally do.

The advertisssement are often made according to what the forum is supposed to speak about.

Maybe, if you choose different reference for Google advert, it will change the publicity. So instead of "WOW, guild, role play"...put : "cooking, movie, football". Maybe we will have related commercial instead of wow gold selling.
I myself on my guild forum got advertissement for yoga and for learning language instead of WOW stuff, because I had 2 thread speaking about that.

I can pay for it if thats the problem, doesn't cost much at all to get rid of the ads, worth it no matter the sticky.

The Google adds work based on the content of the Web Site. So as long as WoW is at all mentioned WoW related adverts will appear causing this issue.

This is one of the reasons I always use my private hosting server and a cutom built forum for everything I do, I hate seeing adverts for Gold Sellers and levelling services, and other more... Strange things every time I look at a website.

For what it's worth, a hosting server suitable for a forum this size wouldn't be very much at all, I pay £60 a year for a server which has unlimited space, 200 Databses, as many Domain Names linked as I want, unlimited Bandwidth and hosting space... For enough for just this itsy-bitsy forum wouldn't even be half that.

Just wanted to update here that the issue is currently being worked with. I'm awaiting confirmations and will later begin working on proper adds that does not conflict with Blizzard rules, and make a new post about the forum in the realm forums once this is sorted.

It doesn't cost a lot, and it could serve for both forum and wiki. No adds, no crap, and I don't mind paying the (very low) bill.

I see defiasbrotherhoodeu.net is not reserved for blizzard. What do you say? I could have it reserved tonight/tomorrow and settled with forum/wiki software by the end of the week.

I'm looking into it all. But as it looks right now, either we got to stick with this or start from scratch. Forumotion doesn't seem to allow any sort of exporting, or is there some front-end way to do a backup of current content?

The hosting is no problems, we already got that part covered. It is the whole exporting that is the main issue right now.

There is no export as far as I know and looking at similar requests on Forumotion's support forum, they seem reluctant to aid in any way, despite that this should be easy to do... Oh well.

To extract this info front end might prove a challenge. Technically this is possible, but to achieve this in an efficient way... eh... Well..

We'll see what happens. I'm pondering to make a whole homepage for Defias RP and attach a forum to it. But it'd take some time as I'd have to copy over important info to the new forum before it can even be used. But right now that's probably what will happen.

Why not make an ad-free homepage that can be linked in realm forums and have these forums attached through the homepage? Blizz CM's would see their ad-free page and you'd have to be a member to see the link to the forums. Everyone happy.

Perhaps add some featured articles in the homepage. Maybe even "move" the wiki there, with all the wikia issues lately. Can also have a flash section there for screenshots and such, to not clutter threads with them. Just thinking out loud, here.

Meanwhile I gave the export some thought. In theory it is possible to:
- Make a scanner that extracts every topic/page/post one by one
- Make a list of users
- Link the users to the posts
- Usergroups

But the complexity increases quickly with every additional information you like to extract.

The challenge in here lies the private/hidden parts of the forum. I haven't had to write a script that simulates a logged in session before. It might cost a lot of effort to do so. Alternatively, I could try to use a javascript based sniffer... which is butt ugly coding but it could take the user's session, which means an admin could extract the entire forum.

However, there are a few things such a script can not copy:
- Contact information
- Passwords etc
- Private messages
- User rights configurations

We would end up creating "stubs" or dummy accounts that later have to be replaced or linked to the real users.

To put it bluntly, I'm not sure it would save time to try this unless we consider every post valuable. If we only consider a few important... then a manual copy paste will take the least effort.

As far as I know, the "transfer" is taken care of by the receiving forum (and yes, it's perfectly doable, same as you back up forums), not the sending forum, so no wonder they may be unhelpful. You want to leave them, why would they be helpful? :D

For simple work, I'm really willing to help. I'm trolling forum all day long anyway, and my guild forum doesn't requiere so much work at the moment.

So, if the transfer is to copy-paste important threads, I can do that.

Or I can help with simple forum /blog coding (wiki is already to complex for me, but I can learn)
