WoW Email - Is it fake?
See, heres the thing. I've had two E-Mails sent to me within the space of a couple of days with the following message:
The address of it is noreply@blizzard.com which looks damned real to me, however the address within the mail that it's telling me to visit (blizzardwowbattle.net) looks fake to me.
I've already been frozen/suspended once when my account got hacked, and even though I have an authenticator on me I'm not too keen on getting permabannded before Cataclysm. Thus far though my account is still active and they haven't done anything.. that is, if it's a real e-mail.
Normally I'd discard it as any other, however the address it was sent from (mainly the battle.net) makes me think..
Greetings,
An investigation of your World of Warcraft account has found strong evidence that the account in question is being sold or traded. As you may
not be aware of, this conflicts with Blizzard's EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which can be found here:
WoW -> Legal -> End User License Agreement
and Section 8 of the Terms of Use found here:
WoW -> Legal -> Terms of Use
The investigation will be continued by Blizzard administration to determine the action to be taken against your account. If your account is
found violating the EULA and Terms of Use, your account can, and will be suspended/closed/or terminated.
In order to keep this from occurring, you should immediately verify that you are the original owner of the account.
To verify your identity please visit the following webpage: http://www.blizzardwowbattle.net/ ((DON'T CLICK IT!))
Only Account Administration will be able to assist with account retrieval issues. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, and
your continued interest in World of Warcraft.
Sincerely,
Kennalith
Account Administration

Reckon it's fake with that adress. Otherwise, just check the return path by viewing the original copy of the e-mail (should be in the options), and see if it's the same e-mail, and if it's sent from a blizzard server.

All mails like that are fake. It's like a GM told me once; They shut your account down FIRST and contact you afterward if it is not fake. So always just ignore such things.

If you check, you will notice most of these mails, while appearing to have a @blizzard.com address, are actually sent from hotmail.

Blizzard will not send you that kind of emails without suspending your account "while investigating".
If you can still log in, it's a fake.

Re: WoW Email - Is it fake?
As said above, it is fake. Looks quite unprofessional (but, then again it is Blizzard's customer service supposedly...). I've had very similar ones recently, to my work email (which isn't anything to do with any game, and also for other games I have never played (Aion) or haven't played in ages (LOTRO, AoC).
The email address from which it was sent is "real". But that (as far as I know) is just the text over the real address. I can fake an email to look like I sent it from the VC of my University if I wished. But it didn't, it came from me.
Always better to check. Some things aren't so easy to spot. Though the good Rule of Thumb is:
If it's from Blizzard about your account, and you're active or haven't been naughty, it's fake.

Never ever believe any email sent to you from blizzard, or any game developer about the status of your account. if you're in doubt, sign into your account via battlenet and it will tell you your account status there.

Re: WoW Email - Is it fake?
When you want to know if an email by Blizzard is fake.
Step 1: Did you poke them first?
No? It's fake.
End of test.

Erm, it's really simple. And I don't mean any fancy way of changing it. But the first "name" people see is usually the user name, not the account... I think I misdescribed that and made me sound like an imbahacker... I was just saying appearances are very easy to decieve, cos most people don't read everything and just skim.
Finish your course. I'm not Gary Mckinnon.
