The definition of Messiah
Somewhat trivial thread, but thought I'd ask on this forum anyway.
I've been considering the use of the word Messiah in a few situations, but using it in WoW may have some problems. According to dictionary.com, the definition can be this:
"... 1. the promised and expected deliverer of the Jewish people.
2. Jesus Christ, regarded by Christians as fulfilling this promise and expectation. John 4:25, 26.
3. ( usually lowercase ) any expected deliverer.
4. ( usually lowercase ) a zealous leader of some cause or project..."
The word comes from either way you look at it both Christianity and Judaism, which makes me wonder if you can actually use the word in WoW, due to the lack of either religions.
As said, somewhat trivial to discuss, but for the sake of discussion and increasing my post count, thought I'd ask.

I'd stray away from Messiah or messiah as a title in WoW. Personally. Too "real world" by far.

Yeah, but that's just a name, a rough take on Christopher I believe.
However, I would avoid using 'messiah' personally, as it's a bit touchy. Messiah is in my eyes only called a Messiah long after they die. So you couldn't walk round calling yourself a Messiah as you'd just have a MASSIVE ego.

"Christian is a popular first name and surname in Northern Europe, United States and other English-speaking countries. The use of Christian as a personal name derives from its use to describe followers of Christianity. "Christian" can also mean "Christ Believer".[3] Today in Europe — though not the United States — it is almost exclusively used as a male name, but in the 17th and 18th centuries it was a popular female first name in Scotland. Female versions of the name include Christine, Christina, Christiane, Kristen, Kristin, and Kirsten. Holders of the name Christian may go by the nicknames or shortened forms "Chris," "Chrissy" or "Xian"."

Re: The definition of Messiah
I personally don't see any problem using messiah a a term in WoW; like so many other words, there's no reason it has to be wed to the cluture, religion or what-have-you it was derived from. It is for that reason definitions 3 and 4 exist.
I'm sure there are a few living religious nutters about who consider themselves to be a (or the) messiah of some description. Anaei's point about ego very much stands in these cases, however!

The ego point is all about character anyway, so the only limitation there is the limits your character provides.
Edit: Besides the limits of discussion of course.

Indeed.
And if no one else is going to say it... he's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy!

I officially love you now, Millana -nods-
As to the topic of the thread, I think messiah is a term that could technically be used in WoW just fine, but I personally would be inclined to shy away from it because it might sound strange / out of place to most.

I wouldn't snub my nose at it. Just look at how much the word Crusade is used in WoW, and that's purely christian in origin.

What Saali said. Messiah = deliverer. Doesn't really strike me as rl that intensely.

+ Messiah = Saviour. Usually not in physical way. But a more spritual or mental way..
Aka.. you made me see the ligh, the truth, or: You put the immense burden of my pain away from my shoulders and let my tears fall to the ground as if my sorrow was but dust..
Etc. So.. if youre not going: I am the king of the world.. go for it^^
Though Messiah is not a title I would put on myself. It is a title you earn and are "given" by others.
Just my thoughts though
And it is used here and there throughout the world of fantasy, so why not in wow hmm?^^
