"Taking Control" (Eothan)
‘Taking Control’
As the sunlight slowly crept into his room, Eothan stirred and opened his eyes. He slowly sat up in bed and turned to his left, smiling slightly at the sight of Vale asleep beside him. He turned away and frowned as he carefully slid out of bed and began walking out of the room. He stopped and dropped to one knee as quietly as he could and grimaced heavily as he took a grip of his left wrist with his right hand.
As he watched the veins in his forearm begin to rise to the surface he stood up and sighed quietly, he looked over his shoulder and watched Vale for a moment before stepping out of the room and moving to the small table outside it. He let go of his wrist for a moment and reached into a pot, pulling out a small jar of blood. He grimaced again as his fingers began to slowly twitch. He took the jar swiftly from the table and quietly, but quickly made his way down the stairs.
He set the jar down on the table as sweat began to form across his brow, he stepped back as a large jolt of pain bolted up his arm and it began to tense uncontrollably. Eothan’s eyes widened as the felt erupted from his hand, the flame swirling around it entirely. He narrowed his eyes as the flames began to take the form of a claw once again, slowly edging towards him with an almost hissing sound accompanying it.
He looked past the flames to the jar of blood on the table and growled quietly, he was unsure whether or not he could get to it and remove the lid in time. His eyes darted back to the claw as it lashed towards him. He closed his eyes and lifted his right hand; he had studied the art of control and combination and knew that the only way to tame the energy was to force into submission with his own.
He opened his eyes as shadow flame began to crackle around his right hand and whispered a few curse words under his breath. He swiftly lifted his right hand and slammed it against the fel claw and slowly pushed the energy back towards his hand. He dropped to a knee as the two colliding energies sent a few streams around the room, as if desperately trying to escape the situation. Eothan narrowed his eyes as his left arm began to tense yet again, but he was not willing to relent.
As he continued to push the fel energy down his mind wandered to why he was going to such lengths to have this added power. With the rising feelings regarding Vale, he had realised that he could never be the sort of man that could keep a child safe. He was well aware that Vale had the ability to keep herself reasonably safe but if he was going to help raise their child he needed to become something other than a loud mouthed weakling with the intelligence and ability to throw a few curses around.
He had always had distaste for being rescued, even if Ledgic had done so a few times already. He respected Ledgic for his ability to never give up when it came to his friends and family, how he would always jump into the fight for them and it wouldn’t even take any thought. He had come to Hillsbrad and brought Eothan back to Stormwind despite wounds from a previous battle and the wounds sustained in the process of rescuing him.
He didn’t want to be like Ledgic, however. He would never throw himself into any situation without thinking about it first but he wanted to be able to protect what he cared about. It was all new to him and it wasn’t really a fresh or enjoyable feeling, he had grown to dislike the fact he’d ever felt anything for Vale or the child that would eventually arrive. However, despite that dislike he knew that his feelings would continue to rise and grow and the desire to protect that which he cared for would only become more prominent in his mind and heart.
What he was doing was risky, drawing the energy out of a demon and forcing it to merge with his own was about as risky as he could get but he wanted it, he needed that power if he would ever have a chance at doing what he wanted to do.
He watched as the fel energy was pushed further into his hand and smirked slightly, his own shadow magic was enough to tame the small amount of fel he had consumed, it was enough for him to be confident that one day he might actually accomplish everything he desired. He closed his eyes and continued to push against the fel energy, his own shadow magic intensifying and growing around his right hand. It began to flicker and crackle, appearing to almost stab at the fel energy, beating it into submission.
For Eothan this wasn’t a matter of proving anything to anyone, it was a matter of proving a few things to himself. He needed to know that his confidence in himself was not misplaced, he needed to know that he could step in protect what he cared about and he needed to know whether his weakness in the past was going to continue into the future, he wanted some degree of his strength.
He had taken a few of the contract killings that he would usually pass onto Ledgic and had executed the targets easily with this new power, despite its violent form. Once he had the energy tamed he knew that he’d be able to do what he wished. Eothan Dawn would be more than a few one-liners and mockery; he’d be able to back up his words with force whenever it was required.
He let out a deep breath as the fel energy vanished and his arm returned to normal. He fell back slightly and landed on his rear and simply sat there staring at his own crackling shadow energy, beads of sweat over his face and chest. He smirked slightly and clenched the fist as the shadow energy vanished from sight. Only a few more days of having to deal with these outbursts and he’d be in control.
