Jean-Baptiste de Gouille

Jean-Baptiste de Gouille 3b8635ac-c01a-44c5-8867-3f6c5e888905_zps1d4db2f9

Character name: Jean-Baptiste de Gouille
Alias: N/A
Gender: Male
Age: Ascended into undeath at the age of 49.
Race: Undead (Human)
Class: Death Knight / Lich

Birth region: Trisfal Glades.
Specific area/town: Noble estate in the proximity of Brill.
Family: The de Gouille family has been wiped out by the Scourge.
Known friends or enemies: Fiercely loyal to the Banshee Queen; recently joined the Shatterskull Marauders and is quickly warming up to them. Also quickly developing a filial relationship with Halhuthius van Houten and an unrequited crush on the captain of the Shatterskull Marauder's Circle regiment, Alph'el Bloodwrath.

Description: Jean-Baptiste's well preserved undead body is usually clad in simple dark robes. The skin on his head could almost be called superflous: it looks like a skull. The inside of his head seems to radiate a cold magical energy, brimming trough his mouth as he speaks in a chilly voice and inside of his empty eye sockets.

Personality: Jean-Baptiste is a humble, shy and fearful forsaken. Though his bashfullness isn't as cartoony as it was when he was still suffering from brainrot, he still appears comically timid, especially towards fair females. Jean isn't one to flaunt his powers openly and prefers to keep them in the shadows, right next to his personal agenda. Jean-Baptiste is in a constant need of affirment and recognition, and does not take critisism or bullying well. It only takes a few well-meant compliments to win his undying favor; yet, it is equally easy to shun him, by acting too 'scary'.

Jean-Baptiste is a true aesthete and romantic at heart and is one of the few necromancers that takes extra care to ensure his creations look aesthetically pleasing. The gargoyles he sculpts tend to look a lot less threating than their classic Scourge counterparts, having beautiful faces and angelic wings instead of looking like monsters.

History: Jean-Baptiste de Gouille is believed to have been one of the earliest acolytes to join the Cult of the Damned. Spreading the Scourge troughout Lordaeron in dark regalia, Jean served his master Kel'Thuzad willingly, working towards the ideal on the mind of every Cult acolyte: ascension into lichdom.

After the fall of the Lich King, Jean-Baptiste saw an opportunity and stabbed one of his former associates in the back, claiming her power for his own and offering it to Sylvanas. Though Jean-Baptiste showed himself to be an extreme opportunist in this cowardly move, something about the way he looks at Sylvanas shows true devotion, rather than a calculated alliance of convenience.

Not everyone was pleased with Jean-Baptiste's quick rise to acclaim however. He was stabbed in the back by one of his competitors for the Banshee Queen's favor. Because Liches are notoriouslly hard to kill, however, his enemies in the Undercity deigned to inflict upon him a serious case of brainrot, which seriously corroded his mental faculties and reduced the normally bright Jean-Baptiste to a bungling parody of his former self.

Only recently - by having his skull shattered and having it be automatically reconstituted by the enchantments of Lichdom - did Jean-Baptiste regain his mental faculties and magical power. Instantly realising what had happened to him, he decided to join the Marauders at a whim, finding new challenges and delights in the company of the mortal races of the Horde.

Things you may know about this character:

  • Jean-Baptiste specializes in frost magic and necromancy.
  • Jean-Baptiste is quite the artist. He sculpts his own gargoyles by hand and is known to enjoy landscape painting. He also plays the violin.

Things you may not know about this character:

  • Jean-Baptiste is a former Cult of the Damned Acolyte.
  • Tough Jean-Baptiste tends to avoid melee combat, some of his most powerful offensive spells, such as Drain Life and Finger of Death require touch.
  • Has a phylactery. Where and what it is, however, is one of Jean's best kept secrets.

Possible crime record: Stalking: has a restraining order against multiple blood elven women and has been banned form Silvermoon due to his open voyeurism.

Jean-Baptiste while he still suffered from Brainrot:

Yep!

Thanks for reminding me to mention it - such an important detail shouldn't be missing.

And yes, for those that were wondering, his name is chiefly a shout-out to Patrick Süssekind's protagonist Jean-Baptiste Grenouille form Das Parfum.
