[A] Vanguard of Duskwood Empty [A] Vanguard of Duskwood

Post by Syrrah Tue Feb 09, 2010 11:26 am

The Vanguard of Duskwood traces its roots back to the Dark Sphere. It was originally used as a pseudo organisation so that the Sphere could officially administrate the town of Darkshire and its surrounding territory whilst avoiding Stormwind's eye.

Following the split in the Dark Sphere, those that remained loyal to Andrek defected and joined the Vanguard. A period of unease followed, new recruits flocked to the Vanguard, eager to serve this rogue group, but Andrek held a paranoia with deep roots for infiltrators and spies, because of this he used his inner-circle, those that had originally left the Sphere with him and whom he trusted most, as a buffer between his actual plans and what was communicated to the fresh recruits. So intricate did a system of secrecy become in the Vanguard that it eventually came to the point where members were unaware who else was a member, as they communicated only with those of the inner circle and rarely face-to-face. Andrek's minions were sent all over Azeroth, infiltrating any guild that held the slightest reputation, through his agents Andrek managed to influence the actions that shaped the current state of The Stormwind Provences. His paranoia was not without reason, spies were found, and one too many meant it was decided that what was left of the inner-circle must go underground.

In a cunning move Andrek pitted his infiltrators against one another, for they did not know they all served a common leader. Others were thrown off the scent by simply severing communication. Once the recruits had been isolated. Everything was made to look as if the Vanguard had disappeared. At an emotional meeting at Raven Hill, Andrek called before him his inner-cricle and others who had served him faithfully in the past, he told them of his intentions. All would disperse at that moment, going their seperate ways. They were to go about as if the Vanguard had not existed and lead normal lives.

However, when or if ever the day came that Andrek should return he would re-activiate those that served him, and they would answer the call. It was known that this day would only come when Andrek had opportunity enough to seize the delicate power balance and wright himself in a swift and fatal coup. The gathering ended, final farewells were said and one by one each member left, finally leaving only Andrek to steal off with his faithful servant Syrrah, and never be seen since.

((17/12/2011)) The world forgot about Andrek as they forgot the old days. The Kingdom had entered a new era, cultism and internal strife no longer posed the greatest threat to Stormwind and so people looked outside of the Kingdom's borders into the great unknown. It was during these 'golden years' that Andrek plotted his return. His first victim would be the boot-clicking betrayers that had overthrown him, The Dark Sphere. At this point the Sphere was a shadow of its former self, the days when they held Stormwind to ransom were long gone and now they were confined to mere banditry and petty criminality.

Andrek gathered together new admirers, he preyed on those ostracised by society -eager to serve something, anything, that rebelled against the beaurocratic and faceless entity that was Stormwind. He used these agents to infiltrate the Sphere and gain postions of power. Once this was done, he played on the Sphere's yearning for the old days and conducted an elaborate hoax to summon their demi-God, the Soulblighter. The Sphere, blinded by it's lust for power, welcomed Andrek with open arms. Once he was accepted his infiltrators elevated him and crushed any dissent. Now that he had taken control of the Sphere from the inside he installed a new, incompetent Darkmaster and left once more. Within weeks the Sphere collapsed completely, ending a long history of one of the most infamous groups to have existed within the Kingdom. With the Sphere gone, Andrek looked to the legacy of the Netherdawn Empire, the Sphere's expanssionist wing from long ago, forgotten almost entirely. The Netherdawn coffers, famous in old Spherite myth as endless, provided Andrek, along with collected Sphere artefacts with all the tools he needed to surface once more.

Andrek had always enjoyed an amiable relationship with Darkshire. The people, fearful of change, treated him as their dread Lord, they were used to years under the thumb of Andrek's Spherite rule and so treated even would-be-liberators, such as the Chapter during their campaign, with a degree of hostility. The Night's Watch and the Duskwood Nobles willingly bended the knee to Andrek's return. The few dozen that opposed his return, having thrown away their traditional values and been corrupted by Stormwind's coin, were brought to a special 'gathering' in the Brightwood Grove by the Night's Watch and buried in a mass grave; with the help of one of Andrek's oldest and most faithful companions, the Gravekeeper of Raven Hill.

With his opposition removed Darkshire hailed Andrek again, predicting coming days of prosperity and joy. After riddling the Darkshire command with his own household staff and securing peace at home, Andrek was free to begin a new campaign against his oldest enemy - Stormwind.

For those that have found this story interesting and wish to become involved you should contact Andrek or Syrrah. We do not insist on guild membership so if you want to remain in a raiding guild or such that's fine, the guildtag <Vanguard of Duskwood> is only used by a minority of our members.
