Aion Empty Aion

Post by Raviran / Reynar Sat May 29, 2010 7:15 pm

So, as the title tells it. Aion. I'm startin' to get intrested on the idea of RP in Aion, and if anyone of you have done it before please share. Atm i can't play wow on my new Windows 7 and i'll have to use my bro's Mac to play wow. An' i found this website http://www.aionroleplayers.com/index.php and they seem to be pretty hardcore RP'ers for what i hear and i'd want to know if it's any worth of buyin' time for it. So please all info on Aion RP, post it here.

No RP servers. No customer support. Full grinding. Horrible communities, etc etc. You won't last a month.

ps: Yes, I played on Gorgos.

There's no RP ruleset on any servers. NCsoft "supports" Roleplay by letting the players choose an unofficial RP server, which is Gorgos. Full of OOC players of course.

Anyway, just watch whatever podcast about Aion and read the comments.

Here the highest rated comment:

If you wanna listen to your players, You should fix your GSU and customer support. It's just horrible.

Edit before I'm going to watch Eurovision: NCsoft doesn't give a **** about EU. So updates are for the Korean and EU receives them years later.

Korean grindan games. With those three words in mind I wasn't surprised to hear that Aion is full of grinding as well.

I played on Aion when it first came out. I got to level 30 as a Cleric from the Elyos. RP is not to be found anywhere. As earlier stated.

Awesome game though, woul' be awesome if people did RP there more. But there are legions / guilds for that, which can be found in the forums i earlier posted. It's not as popular or general as it is in WoW, but i'd still like to try it out first before judgin' it.

Played it extensively at launch, it's a pretty solid game if you can endure the grinding. It's nowhere near as bad as a proper eastern MMO, but it's quite a step up from the extremely casualized WoW as well.

Pros:
Looks really good.
Better and meaningful crafting.
Flight. In PvE it's a pretty cool tool for getting around.
Harder PvE content while levelling. There will be times you have issues 1v1'ing a mob your level as certain classes, and you'll have to run if you aggro two of them. "Skill" pays off, both in dungeons and while soloing.
Grindy. Reminds of vanilla wow in that you actually have to work to progress your character, a much more satisfying feel to it because of just that.

Cons:
Flight. It's going to cause a lot of frustration in PvP, and its mechanics aren't really where they should be yet at times.
Bots and goldsellers. You'll spot both of these annoyingly much, it's a much bigger problem than in WoW
Grindy. Not really a problem until you start reaching max level and want the best gear. Here it'll really get to you if you don't have a particularly hardcore mindset. A lot of the best gear is craftable, and you have to spend millions of ingame gold on attempting to craft these with only a little chance to success. In the hardest of dungeons, you also have to pay money to try again if you wipe, although I've only heard this being the case in the last dungeon.

In the end of the day, despite what the WoW fanboys will try to make you believe, it's actually a pretty solid game. PvP balance isn't that good yet but it's a lot more stable than WoW was around release. There are PLENTY of big world pvp battles popping up everywhere in the Abyss, I dare say it's the best game for world pvp out now since WAR really doesn't have the playerbase to support it anymore. If you feel that WoW is too easy for you or too casual, I urge you to give it a try, you'll probably have some fun, or feel nostalgic when playing an mmo that's actually difficult Razz

In the RP aspect... yeah. I too played on Gorgos and the RP playerbase seems to be an almost non-existant minority. There were a few Legions around for RP though, if you search some on your own and contact them, you can probably find some RP, but it's not comparable to the chance of finding random RP in Stormwind in the evening, for example. You also need the ability to tune out everyone else running around, too. I had a lot of fun in the game, it's definitely worth a shot if you ask me.

Aye, Clerics were pretty good alright. As a sorc I could 1v1 and sometimes 1v2 most fights it felt like, although Spiritmasters and Rangers took a dump all over me every time. Rock paper scissors and all.

Speaking after months of gameplay.

Personally I didn't like it after a couple of months, but I think the graphics are fine (although they haven't gone into details at certain places), some tricks needed to be done to have Raid Vs Raid combat work properly (such as the high texture on some models low details on a lot of everything else) and I was involved in some massive fights with no more lag than I would have had anyway.

Quests are rewarding you with little-to-no exp. (( There's a campaign you can follow, but once you're done with the possible ones at your lvl, you're stuck with grinding. ))

The higher resolution textures is rather awful as it is now, and they haven't updated it since beta.

The spellcasting not being able to move whilst casting, or the whole 0 second spellcasting not being the same thing as instant spells they are ways to get around the animation problems but yea coming from WoW (and console gaming) it felt a bit clunky.

Limited flight time feels rather disturbing.

The EU team is advertising about the game (podcasts), instead of helping people out in-game. There's literally no customer support.

However, I still think its the most viable alternative to WoW on the market for most people today though.

The game seems nothing else but a poorly done world of warcraft. The NPCs spout off nonsense, the story has no feeling behind it, the cutscenes are really a joke, the fighting is basically exactly the same as any other game only with really flashy animation.

Personally the only game I would ever truely leave one WOW for if all the roleplay was somehow transplanted into that would be, no make that two. A highly improved graphically city of heroes and villians, or a fixed and finished Warhammer online.

It's just like WoW when it was released. Just wait a year or two an' it'll get better alot just like WoW did.

I'd probably leave for Ragnarok Online.

CAUSE IT BE DAT KEWL.

>_> Or not.

I probably wouldn't purchase a monthly pay online game altogether *shrug*

And I played the beta for Aion, but...meh, what was the point on limited flight time? The fight sequences were awful too; if you died, you went back to the start.

I know you're trying to keep a optimistic attitude and I do encourage that. Just wanted to say though that WoW was really damn good even at launch.

Do give it a try and give us a review IMO. Smile

Well yes, Aion truly has an amazing potential-

But due to the fact that it's made by NCsoft, don't expect them to continue with the game ~ like Blizzard continues with World of Warcraft.

Especially not when they lost over half of the playerbase in Europe. Either way, their focus will be on Korea and the korean players.

The long waited patch 1.9 will be applied 2nd June, do at least wait with starting untill they fixed its bugs.

I watched theyre podcast about that and they said they will definetly continue with the Aion lore, and probably it will come to Europe too. Maybe later but still comes.
