The Jack of Diamonds
Stormwind, Evening 26th October
Guards were called to the Blue Recluse after reports of a break in. It seems the thief entered and left through an upstairs window which he had managed to unlock from the outside. A few small valuables were reported as missing. No damage was done to the property and no one was hurt.
Workers at the pub claimed to have seen a leather-clad masked man disappearing across the roof tops of the Mage District but no sign of the assailant could be found.
The thief left a calling card - a Jack of Diamonds playing card - on the pillow of the inn owner, Miss Kelinn Everstride.

A most unfortunate incident, and the Recluse is taking on measures to protect the property and its valued customers. There will also be a reward put out for any information leading to the return of Miss Everstride's stolen Black Diamond Ring!

Re: The Jack of Diamonds
After the costume party at the Blue Recluse last night, Kelinn discovered a Jack of Diamonds playing card tucked into her clothes. Whoever had put it there, clearly had incredible slight of hand. With the inn being so busy it was impossible to get any idea who the perpetrator might have been.
Taking a look at the card she saw some words written on it in a flowing, cultured hand:
"If you want to see your Black Diamond ring again, wear a red dress all next week."

On finding the Jack of Diamonds card o her person, Miss Everstride is begining to feel there maybe a more personal vendetta taking shape, so she is increasing her reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator! For now she will play along.

Stormwind, First Light 7th November
Guards were called to the Denman Family Jewellers after reports of an overnight break in. It seems the thief entered and left through the front door, which he had managed to unlock from the outside, despite some simple arcane wards being in place. A collection of valuable jewels were reported as missing. No damage was done to the property and no one was hurt. In fact the theft went unnoticed until the dawn.
The thief left a calling card - a Jack of Diamonds playing card - in the cash register of the owner, Mr Terrance Denman.

- In the interests of keeping this storyline going the Jack of Diamonds is going to hit a few non-PC shops over the next few weeks...

- OOC update:
More progress on this idea:- I've contacted Reyxor and we are in the beginnings of negotiations over a possible hit on the HQ of the Ninth Company in the coming weeks.
- Kelinn and I are working out how I am going to ransom back her special Black Diamond ring which was stolen from the Recluse.
- Negotiations are ongoing with Rhena about the Pig and a possible hit there.
- Someone else on the server (who will remain anonymous until they say they're happy to be named) has contacted me via PM to find out how they can hire the Jack of Diamonds to do some work for them.
So the storyline is rumbling along slowly but gaining a little momentum now. I'm hoping it will stay fairly low key but get a bit of interest as it progresses.
Contact me if you want to get involved - as a victim, partner, or detective...- I've contacted Reyxor and we are in the beginnings of negotiations over a possible hit on the HQ of the Ninth Company in the coming weeks.

Kelinns ring was returned to her, after it was secured by the Illidari known as Anthaniel Sagefire. Rumours abound about how she was able to make contact and negotiate with the Jack of Diamonds, but she publicly stated that she met with a strange individual known as "The Queen of Hearts", who liaised on behalf of the infamous Jack.
The identities of both these individuals remain unknown.

Re: The Jack of Diamonds
The Jack of Diamonds has recently acquired a stone, fetched from the depths of the Twisting Nether. This stone has properties of magical absorption. Not powerful enough to absorb a fireball, it will however absorb most scrying and divination magic. Thus the Jack has taken a big step forward in guaranteeing his anonymity.
- OOC explanation:
- This was acquired after extensive RP with members of the Illidari. It should block all simple divination spells, including Illidari fel-sight.
I'm not trying to god-mod with this. Rather the idea is to level the playing field against the magic users out there. I don't want a Mage to be able to look into their crystal ball and say, "The Jack of Diamonds true identity is X, and he's sitting in this pub."
To catch me you're going to have to engage in the old fashioned game of sleuthing.

Hmph. So we have someone among us who would consort with thieves? For what purpose, I wonder, would a fellow Illidari give up such an object?
Piqued interest. Time to investigate further.

Hey I see that as a completely reasonable thing, I mean let's face it scrying kinda screws over any "who dun it" situation in WoW. I imagine the criminal underground have come up with ALOT of ways to defend against such things.

Agree with hutch, there's plenty of examples of such in lore to deceive magic "short cuts" to finding information or scry.. It's never fun to have your clever ideas spoiled by a "I'll use magic to answer all the questions"

Re: The Jack of Diamonds
A curious gnome wearing a most fabulous hat enters the door of Duncan's Textiles, browsing through their incredible selection of brightly coloured scarves. Eventually settling upon a gaudy rainbow-coloured one, he brings it to the counter to purchase.
"That'll be fifty silver, sir", the man at the counter said as the gnome searched for the coin in his pockets.
"Oh, no-no-no! I must've dropped all of my money! I'm terribly sorry, mister-tailor-sir, this won't happen again! I'll come back when I find it again to buy this splendiferistic scarf!"
The gnome promptly walked out of the shop, somewhat disappointed that he wouldn't be leaving with what he came for. As he began to retrace his steps, he checked his pocket again.
"Ooh, what's this? Some kind of playing card? Suppose this is my money's worth anyhow. Must've been an act of the Titans for me keeping a good spirit for the day!", he muttered to himself, now somewhat happier about the whole ordeal.
The gnome was none other than Bartleby Zensprocket.

Stormwind, Morning of the 17th November
The morning shift arriving at the Stormwind City Stables this morning realized something was wrong. The cart which had been recently repaired and fixed up was missing, as were the two strong and fast draft horses which had been selected to pull it. Questioning the night shift who were just about to head home, they discovered that the horses and cart had been officially requisitioned in the night. When asked the night staff had hazy recollections of the events but said that a member of the Stormwind City Patrol, accompanied by a blind Kaldorei, had presented papers and taken the cart away.
Looking at the papers they appeared to be completely in order, however it was noticed that the paper had been folded in a cunning way to make an envelope. When this was carefully opened a pair of playing cards dropped out. The Jack of Diamonds and the Queen of Hearts. Re-examination of the papers revealed them to be a forgery, but of exceptional standard.
Quite what the Jack of Diamonds and his accomplice want with a cart and horses is unknown and the identity of the thieves remains a mystery.

Re: The Jack of Diamonds
Stormwind, Morning of the 25th November
This morning Master Morgan Pestle of Pestle's Apothcary in Stormwind reported a break in to the city guards. The incident happened over night with the assailant apparently entering the premises through an upstairs window.
Master Pestle reported numerous potions and alchemical reagents had been stolen, plus some money from his safe box. He also reported his wife's jewellery was missing, though her prized wedding ring had not been stolen. It was clear that the intruder had been in their bedroom whilst they slept, but neither had woken and neither had been harmed in anyway, nor was any damage done to the property.
Left behind inside the safe box was a now familiar Jack of Diamonds playing card.
The guards appear no closer to catching this mysterious burglar, nor to finding his identity. If there is a pattern to his thefts, then none have been able to work it out yet.

Yeah, sorry. On re-reading it I think it was inappropriate and incorrect to put it there. The purpose was to try and keep up some momentum on the story, but it was not a good post. I've deleted it.
Apologies.

- It's fine. Mistakes happen. Of course from my character PoV, such information leaking out would be the worst kind of breach into privacy and demand immediate retribution. I didn't think that Jack, who's been RPed as cautiously as he has, would take such a radical move as to leak out the info and piss off a certain enchanter.

Re: The Jack of Diamonds
Stormwind, morning of the 6th of December.
In the small hours of the morning, a man hands over a rather cumbersome package to a street urchin on one of the back streets of Old Town, along a few freshly baked loafs of bread, a few kinds words and a smile.
As morning dawns, before the hammers of the forges of the Dwarven District starts their loud, daily work, residents of the Golden Keg tavern and inn awakes to a very angry dwarf, and the guards are quickly summoned. The dwarf is Fenodyree Ironbeard, and the reason for his current state is the theft of his masterwork hammer, given to him by the forge masters of Ironforge when he passed his apprentice test.
Apparently, someone has broken in to his room at the Golden Keg, sometime between late last night when he went to bed, locked the hammer in a chest he keeps under his bed, and early this morning, when he went to grab his hammer before starting his daily work orders, which he's usually the first to do so.
The thief left no trace whatsoever, except on the bottom of the chest where the hammer should have been, there was a playing card. The Ace of Diamonds.
(Yes, the card was changed from Spades to Diamonds. You are not mad. Yet.)
