Are you Roleplaying your Garrison?
Seems to be a pretty hot topic in some circles. Others don't care.
Anyways, as the title says, are you roleplaying your garrison? If so, how? I for one can't bear the thought of getting so immersed in the levelling process and the coolness of having my own garrison to take command of then going back to being a nobody in RP circles. But at the same time I don't like the idea of Roleplaying as a simple Clan/Tribesman then suddenly becoming an uber commander; COMMANDER HAEN OF THE GARRISON around SOME of Haen's friends and "Tribesman Haen" around his OTHER friends.
So to combat this I'll probably Roleplay the thing out in my head; in game, yuss, I'll play along and RP the quests like I always do, and enjoy being in charge of the Garrison and it's denizens. I'll enjoy immersing myself in the story lines and in the sudden power I've been given over various NPCs. I'll treat it like a single player game until I come to RP with others.
From an IC (server lore; ie. with other players) point of view, Haen will still be in charge of a small Garrison - though it'll be one of the many thousands that have suddenly popped up all over the landscape as various soldiers band together to fight against the IH. The Garrison will be nothing more than a small (though growing) outpost consisting of (mostly inexperienced) fellow Tauren soldiers who also survived. For some reason they've put Haen in charge.
That'll be it. No "Master and Commander". Simply "Oh hey [other Roleplayers] you survived too, cool. Let's explore this new land together. I'll follow your lead and orders as always. By the way, I'm in charge of a small Tauren outpost a few miles down the road. Don't ask how. It's nothing big, but feel free to visit if you want."
I'll make reference to this outpost continually throughout IC interactions, but Haen's loyalty and priorities will remain with the Blood Wolf Clan - though he'll be in constant contact with the Garrison via messenger bird when out with the Tribe, and will always return to it when not on a campaign. Basically I'll have this single player story as played out in game (questlines, cinematics, etc), which will be my own personal "canon" and main source of immersion, and my stripped back "secondary" version of the story which I'll use when playing with others
What about you? Will you ignore it? Do something similar to me? Will you RP it all out IC, as a commander? No right or wrong answer here, it's just been interesting seeing how everyone's going to do it.

Probably not acknowledged it IC. None of my characterset have any need for one.

I might just grab one house from there and pretend it's either of my character's work house, just house, or something fancy! Cuz why the hell not?

Helmut has always needed a private office so I will probably set it up so one of the garrisons buildings act as the inside of a Stormwind apartment.

I will likely not use it. But if I do it'll be specific buildings. But it's rare that I RP with anyone specific so it's likely gonna be just OOC for me. No real need of it.
It'd be if someone would want to visit Minerals home I think. Use one of the buildings, or her workshop.

Re: Are you Roleplaying your Garrison?
In my own, little head, maybe. In actual RP though, I'd probably classify it as some kind of guild outpost. It's pretty much like you say: The in-game quests have kind of been treating us like we're some kind of special hero and sure, it helps make the scope a little bigger, but it wouldn't make much sense (or rather, would be a tad silly at the least) from an IC perspective. So it's always a bit of a mix of what goes on in your own personal, little world, and then outwardly towards fellow RPers. Singleplayer and multiplayer.
Re: Are you Roleplaying your Garrison?
I will treat the Garrison in Draenor as an outpost of the Alliance/Horde.
My characters will have no position of command over the outpost.
I may make use of the Garrison in the roleplay of my Military Guild, we being one of the units temporary stationed there while not out in the world.
I hope that the Alliance side garrison will play off as a combined military base for the Alliance RP guilds who travel to Draenor, an outpost in the alien world, a single one, instead of one of the thousands of outposts by the coast of Shadowmoon Valley.
Of the above, i hope that we roleplayers find a way to communicate which players garrison is in use, get in the same raid group and get to roleplay in the same garrison... as long as Raid Group size allows.
---
I can acknowledge the Garrison used by others to represent another location than it is not located IC on the exact spot of the Garrison ingame, but it is unlikely that i will use the base myself in such a way for my characters.

I heard there is a mage tower option in one of the more remote sub-garrisons, I'll definitely be using that.
I'm sure the Band of the Brave will incorporate the Garrison in the guild story in one way or another.

Re: Are you Roleplaying your Garrison?
I've already started setting up plans for the garrison IC, Thorvald would definitely be one of the people who has set up a full Garrison as he was in the first, second and third war. He will be on the front line fighting the horde and giving out support to whoever needs it.
That would be what he would in characterful do tho, he has enough gold to do so however I will need some help OOC to pull it off, hopefully someone from a military guild.
The garrison would feature campaigns (ofc) building events similar to what I heard about happened on Theramore, hunting events, exploration and expeditions because we will need all the power we can get our hands on and we don't want the pesky Iron Horde to get them first. There would also be sendt out diplomats to the Draenei and possibly to the Horde. It would also act as a refugee.
This is some of the plans I've got on my minds upon writing this, it all acts on if it happens, if I get the chance to set it up and if someone else doesn't do it. Thorvald has already started gathering old friends from the three wars to prepare against Garrosh.

Re: Are you Roleplaying your Garrison?
Until (if ever) they can be made a bit more race specific then nope. Arli would never live in an Orcish settlement and IC would most likely treat it as a small outpost of people he hasn't pissed off (yet).

I look forward to use garrisons as guild bases or fictional cities. It will also be interesting to role-play the actual building and managing of the garrison.

As far as I'm aware if you're exhalted with a city (Ie. Silvermoon) you can change the guards to the guards of that city (eg. Blood Elves). I'm happy having all of my guards Tauren, since it's a Tauren outpost. Or do you mean the buildings themselves?

I am going to have Bismack build mine over time. Wishing for no barricades but probably getting just that.

Re: Are you Roleplaying your Garrison?
As Koz said, Not going to use it as an 'individual'. That said, Red blade lore screams of an old clan red blade village in a landscape like Frostfire...
...So I have no doubt in whatever form it eventually comes when our officers have it planned out (if they haven't already), the 'guild garrison' will be RP'ed out wonderfully. I'm very much looking froward to it.

Who needs Garrisons when you can use Leatherworking to pitch you own tents!

I think it'd be much cooler to have a simple camp with a few fires and tents
Not to mention there's 19 to choose from on each Faction.

Only five minutes... which isn't as fun.

Do you think it is possible for us to petition/send email/use Suggestion tool (ingame) for Blizzard to increase the tent duration to 10-20 minutes?Arkil wrote:erwtenpeller wrote:How long do those tents last, though?

On the other hand...
Do you really want to give guilds like ABoC the resources to spam your screen with stuff that takes ages to go away?

It's not like it's really going to matter at this point, lol. They already have plenty of bs to throw in your face.
