Shadows of Karazhan: An Arcane Conclave Research Adventure
When is it?: Wednesday 8th October at 20:30 realmtime.
Where is it?: Starting at Stonard in the Swamp of Sorrows.
What is it?: After the last session's revelations, Sadok announced that the Fourteenth Session would be a research assignment to the Tower of Karazhan to investigate unusual ley-line readings (see the Thirteenth Session minutes below). The Horde RP community's magi and warlocks are on the front line to delve within the Shadows of Karazhan.
Who may attend?: Any mage or well-behaved warlock affiliated with the Horde. Non-arcanists (such as priests, shaman and others) cannot expect to be accommodated without good reason, made clear at the beginning of the Session -- the Conclave simply don't have room for axe-wielding adventurers with no grasp of the finer nuances of the arcane.
Not on the event-calendar invite list? Please contact Sadok ingame for a calendar invite, post in this thread with your mage/warlock's name or send me a PM.
___________
Speaking Points for the Fourteenth Session:
- Notes in Brief: The primary objective of this session is to investigate the Karazhan ley conflux, but any Conclave members with notes or announcements may make them in brief. After introductions are made, this portion of the session will take no longer than twenty minutes.

There's not many Tauren or Pandaren who may be interested in this, but it's in our guild calendar anyway!

Re: [H] Arcane Conclave: Shadows of Karazhan, 8th October 20:30
Due to acute computer failure on my end [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], the Arcane Conclave has been postponed one week until the third of September!
Apologies for the inconvenience! The in-game calendar should hopefully reflect the updated date.

I'm so tempted to come on an Alliance-in-disguise, but I have a feeling it would end in being outed and potentially eaten.

((Sorry for the delay in posting minutes -- I've had a mix of tech problems and personal circumstances delaying me. Details about the next session of the Conclave will be announced tomorrow, hopefully.))

Rahxo Soulprice
Khromar Blacktongue
Gromgeth
Tianyu Rainborn
Gurgtrock
Kraagara
Thelesion Sundancer
Meranda
Arhnum Wildbranch
Prefatory Notes:
- Almost half of the gathered arcanists arrived within half a horn of the Conclave’s start. While I can certainly applaud punctuality, I can only deduce most of the Conclave’s membership have no social life.
- Cridar Plaguemixer is now inexplicably an elf. I try not to judge.
- Though a druid, Arhnum Wildbranch claims to harness astral arcane. His more conservative viewpoints have brought him into conflict with the warlocks of the Conclave, but I can appreciate some balance as long as tempers do not flare out of control.
Discussion:
1- Election of a Conclave Chair
- Sadok noted that the primary function of this evening’s session was to re-establish the Arcane Conclave as a force for the Horde, and for the mutual benefit of its members. As such, the first matter of business would be to elect a chair to moderate discussion, maintain minutes, organise future sessions and represent the Conclave’s interests at the Horde Gathering.
- Three candidates stood for chair: Grogglefutz, Thelesion and Sadok. They made candidacy speeches: Grogglefutz argued he was a “colorful” choice who had taken minutes at the last Horde Gathering (noting he was “fired” from this role); Thelesion noted his connections with the Sunreavers and experience with Silvermoon Council politics — that he was not afraid to lead discussion or stand before a group; Sadok stated that he had founded the Conclave and led seven sessions as Chair, and maintained good diplomatic relations with key figures in the Horde Gathering.
- In the end a vote was held: three voted for Grogglefutz (Rahxo, Gurgtrock, Cridar); one for Thelesion (Meranda); five for Sadok (Arhnum, Gromgeth, Grogglefutz, Tianyu, Khromar). Kraagara declined to vote. With the most votes, Sadok was elected chair of the Arcane Conclave.
2- The Demon Question
- Grogglefutz brought forward the first matter, asking for opinions on those who incorporate demons in their magic — he claimed certain individuals had recently given the death sentence to demonologists.
- Perhaps unsurprisingly, the warlocks in attendance were strongly in favor of a liberal policy towards demon summoning and use. Khromar argued warlocks had control them, Cridar advocated legalisation of lesser demons, Kraagara claimed the Alliance had no such restrictions, and so the Horde should not either.
- Tianyu noted that it was not his fault if he felt uncomfortable around demons, and expected warlocks to control their demons. Arnhum claimed all demons were vermin.
- Grogglefutz returned the matter to executions. He indirectly used the example of Gurgtrock (present at the Conclave), who is literally being held together by imps (seriously, you should see it, it’s disgusting). Sadok noted that there is a nuanced distinction between the use of demons, and being so reliant on them that they are part of your flesh.
- It was eventually clarified that the supposed death-dealer was Rargnasha of the Red Blades. As an Elder of that tribe, Sadok noted that Gurgtrock was bound by a tribal honor-code more restrictive than the Horde’s general law. Grogglefutz countered that he had done the same to an ‘FP’ (a goblin warlock, I gather). Arhum argued that this FP had tried to murder Horde members and had burnt a village to the ground in a fel-crazed haze.
- The matter was eventually brought to a resolution. Sadok asked for Grogglefutz to write him an account of this FP’s treatment, and if it had sufficient merit to argue, would raise the matter at the next Gathering, along with a formal clarification of the Horde’s laws on demons.
3- Thalassian Runestones
- Meranda brought before the Conclave the matter of the runestones defending Silvermoon — the four border-stones required refocusing to prevent corruption and intrusion.
- The Conclave members went back and forth on possible solutions: Khromar posited fel reinforcement, whereas Arnhum noted demonic magic had a detrimental impact on areas such as the Felwood; Grogglefutz suggested ‘chi’, but had no experience in the magic; Kraagara suggested crafting new runestones, but Meranda claimed they were beyond Silvermoon’s powers; Thelesion suggested shamanistic magic.
- Sadok suggested sending a group of Conclave members to Eversong to inspect the runestones before committing to any decisive action. Meranda offered to lead any volunteers, and asked them to be in Silvermoon a week hence (the tenth day of the month).
4- The Karazhan Konundrum (yes, I know it’s conundrum)
- Sadok regaled the Conclave with the results of research he had conducted in the Deadwind Pass during a mating hunt some six weeks prior. He used an arcanometer to take ley-line readings and got an unusual empty reading despite the ley conflux beneath Karazhan.
- The Conclave speculated as to the cause of this strange reading: Siyah’gosh claimed it was a natural rerouting of magical patterns; Kraagara argued portal magics could have sucked the conflux dry temporarily; Gurgtrock posited that Sadok’s arcanometer was merely broken.
- Sadok spoke of Malygos’ attempt to tamper with ley-lines in years past, but lacking the specific details, Arnhum gave a more thorough explanation of the damage to the land that such manipulation caused — such action beneath Karazhan could cause damage on the scale of a second (third? fourth?) Shattering.
- Sadok proposed immediate, drastic action. The next session of the Conclave would not emanate from a city, but would be held in the shadow of Karazhan itself — the arcanists would get to do the bottom of the issue. In the meantime, he implored those gathered to do whatever research they could in the weeks before the next session.
- Before the meeting was adjourned, Thelesion made a final announcement. He invited the Conclave’s members and their friends and family to a wedding in Silvermoon. It was unclear who was being wed, at least to a simple orc, but I didn’t particularly care enough to ask.
