Greetings

I have recently come back to WoW after a 3 year break. I used to play on Alliance side, but now enjoy Horde. Although I am still getting my teeth into WoW's lore, I have been RPing since around 1996; my first stint into MMORPGs being with Warhammer Online. I love character development, the twists and turns that a good plot among a group of RPers can bring, and the extra depth roleplay brings to a computer game. For me, just playing the MMO without the RP is dull and rather a waste of time.

I'm unguilded at present, mainly due to not being able to commit to set times and days to log in. It is difficult to say for definite whether I will be able to attend an event. I would consider joining a Blood Elf guild, so long as a casual gamer would be welcome. I am still working on my character profiles, but so far have the following fluff behind my characters. Comments, feedback, and ideas for improvement are very welcome:


Allorys - Blood Elf Huntress.
She's from Sunstrider Isle, home of her family. She fled to avoid an arranged marriage, and currently dwells in Silvermoon where she's keeping a low profile to avoid being found. She's been brought up well, is very polite and posh, but has a sadistic side to her nature. She enjoys hunting for sport, and this includes any "lesser races". Beautiful and headstrong, it's her way or no way. She can be arrogant and aloof, but that is because she is used to the finer things in life. Having to slum it to stay hidden from her family, she struggles with concealing her refined ways.


Kalrian - Blood Elf Mage.
Allorys' father. He is head of a wealthy household in Sunstrider Isle, and has his sights on becoming a Magister. His wife, and eldest son and heir was killed when Silvermoon was attacked by the Scourge, leaving the family in a difficult position. In order to continue with his ambitions, he had set up a marriage between his daughter and a wealthy household with great influence (still researching this, I don't want it to be "Mary Sue"). She found out, hated her betrothed, and ran away from home, throwing Kalrian's reputation into disarray. Still grieving for the devastation caused to his family, he works hard to keep his reputation high to help gain footholds up the ladder in Sin'dorei society. However, the strain of the recent years is taking its toll, and his use of arcane magic and bloodroot is starting to cause problems which he tries his best to hide. He will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

I'm thinking of using Roman aristocracy as archetypes to help with the character development for these two. To help pull off the wannabe Magister, I could do with someone to roll a Blood Elf warrior or something similar, that could be his bodyguard/retainer/hired blade, to accompany him in public business and keep the riff raff out of his way. I have some friends coming over to WoW who I have RPed with in other games, so am hoping one of them could roll an alt for this.\


Sylrien - Blood Elf Death Knight.
This is a new one, I am working out a storyline for her. I was considering something along the lines of how she died when the Scourge struck Silvermoon and was taken off by the Lich King. During her liberation, she remembered the words of Lady Eonys, and decided to set out for Silvermoon to see if she could learn anything of her past and her former life. She is of the Ebon Blade and martially, is very experienced. Like any DK, she suffers if she does not inflict suffering on others, and is learning to control her urges - taking her victims from accepted enemy forces instead. The more they suffer, and more prolonged their agonising death, the longer she can go without having to kill. Part of her enjoys this, and the only reason she does not see everyone as potential targets to sate her hunger, is that she needs to keep them as neutral or allies to help her find herself. She is quiet and grim.


I enjoy more complex characters, and grittiness. I can't say I'm much of a fan of carebear RP. I dislike attention seeking RP, and people that use the veil of RP to be generally weird or unpleasant. Not forgetting those that RP so they can get their cyber on! I adjust my style to suit the approach and maturity of those I am interacting with, and try to blend in with whatever is going on, rather than trying to steal the scene. Effective RP needs to be believable, and for that to happen it needs to be relatively simple.

IRL, I'm in my 30s, and am a married working mother to a little terror So no interest in using WoW to pull! Sorry to point this out, but I have had some rather awkward interaction attempts in the past, and want to try to avoid this in future.

We currently have a lack of blood elf only guilds but a new and exciting one has formed - the Convocation of Arcana. Other than that there are at least 2 guilds that accept blood elves; the Shatterskull Marauders, a bunch of axe-bitten mercenaries and the Blood Wolf Clan, a savage bunch of renegades.

You should head over to the Registry section and have a look!

Also, in my experience most guilds welcome casual players with awkward log on times.

I don't think any horde guild will have problems taking in a casual player. I know the Shatterskull Marauders and the Blood Wolf Clan certainly don't!

Welcome indeed to the community! Hope you find your home here at Horde DB! I love the commitment to your characters already and the backgrounds you are thinking of exploring.

Also I think a lot of guilds would agree that most have open events that you can join. Wherever you go and whatever you do, RP is a brilliant thing.

Welcome on DefiasRP, see you in game

I forgot to mention that I really enjoy PVP, and understand the interactions of a tight team - tank, DPS, healer, and their relationships with each other when fighting. So I look forward to taking part in more of this when my toons reach level 90.

Thank you all for your welcoming replies! I had seen a decline in RP over these recent years, and feared the rot had crept into Defias after seeing so much OOC chat whilst on my wanders.

I have had a look at the College, the Convocation, and the Shatterskull Marauders' pages, and I am at a loss!

I feel the Convocation would be perfect for Kalrian. He's "old school", aloof, power hungry, cunning, and a complete arcane junky.

His daughter, Allorys however, has turned her nose up at studying magic. Part of her rebellion I thought. She does specialise with Arcane creatures with her battle pets and hunter companions though, as a nod to the importance that magic has to her race. She has decided to try to learn Engineering, rather than something more traditional. I thought it would be just right for her to throw in her lot with a band of mercenaries. It would be more in character for her.

Would it be reasonable to have characters in more than one guild? I am usually on for around an hour, most evenings. Then whenever I get to steal a bit of time for myself.

At the end of the day, it's entirely up to you how you spend the time you have! And you'd be hard pressed to find people that don't have various characters dotted around
