[Rise of the Dead] The Scourge Returns
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It has begun...
The coughing acolytes stood in the basement of the building, their faces masked but the familiar stench of death magic filled the air. In the center lay an average weighing dwarf, of roughly five feet. His beard was cut off his face, his eyes sunken and hollow, and he lay there, an immobile pile.
A sharp voice rang out in the hall, clearly belonging to the one in charge of the assembly.
"Finish the ritual acolytes and prepare for transportation, we must make the journey through the night. Claudius, ensure the Forsaken do not happen upon us.
Velidius, see to the worm within the broken realm of Arathor to ensure they do not hinder our journey either.
The Black Dawn shall run unopposed if all goes well, Khaz Modan is a weak and broken nation, disorganized, lawless and on the brink of another civil war. This is the time to strike, the Damned shall rise again in the perfect image the Dark Lord gave us, and soon after the gift of Undeath is with out assistance, embraced upon in Khaz Modan, it shall spread to the corners of the Eastern Kingdoms and achieve the goals laid out by our master. "
Claudius and Velidius nodded at the given orders and headed towards the stairs which would bring them into the courtyard. Each one had specific duties, along with their own ring of informers throughout the Forsaken and Arathorian communities, these two individuals excelled in manipulation and deception, so they have the honor of ensuring the safety of the cargo, by any means necessary.
In the darkness of the monastery the acolytes continued to train, mastering and improving upon their abilities. For only few would make it to becoming true necromancers, but for the beginning of the end, all would be required and therefore all were given extensive training. They had been preparing for many years for this day, the Day of the Dead, and now it would all begin, a new war, and fresh meat to create an army from.
OOC
This is a roleplaying event to celebrate the Day of the Dead and bring back some nostalgia of the Scourge to the forefront of RP for a few days. This is part of slowly developing and on-going roleplaying plot that will be played out and organized between veteran members of 'The Frozen Covenant' and the leadership of The Three Hammers, but anybody is welcome to participate.
Prelude: The Senate will receive a report tomorrow [Thursday, 20] hearing of a sickness spreading throughout the township, and likely prepare an investigation for Friday.
Part One - Complete
The first day will mark the spread of the contamination in the city [Dun Modr used OOCly]. Individuals are asked to roll alter ego's to portray either members of the Cult of the Damned or citizens of the township. Everybody is welcome to participate and all races are allowed, dwarves are preferred.
Danger levels: It's likely most people will die (and brought back via RP).
Contacts: Gilran, Zalon, Linzu/Kedlitih.
Type of RP: DMed / interaction among other players is suggested and highly encouraged! Dawn of the dead style.
Summary of events
As the citizens of the township to attempt to find a resolution, the what was once peaceful community turned in on itself, imploding against each other, brawling and eventually trying to burn one of their fellow citizens alive for selling them green cheese which may have been the reason for the sickness, and death. However, the truth was shown. Multiple adept necromancers entered the village, undead minions at their side and dark energies radiating, pulsating and stinking off of them.
The necromancers and their acolytes and minions devastated the town, easily overcoming the physical and mental defenses of the citizens and guards, turning them against each other and sowing true chaos. The dead whom perished from the disease were brought back, bolstering the ranks of this Undead force and poising a bigger threat to Khaz Modan then first expected.
A mountaineer regiment did appear however and at first seemed to be winning, until the surge of fallen citizens began to break their ranks and lock them into melee combat, the final fall for them however was the large and unexpected host that came from behind them, led by the powerful Death Knight Zalon, he quickly set his minions on the backs of the mountaineers and engaged in the melee himself, killing as he went. The rituals, chants and sacrifices to the Dark Lord of the frozen throne were heard echoing throughout the town as it became a new bastion of power for the Scourge.
OOC
The event was excellent, giving many memories of the concept behind the third war and how the plague spread. Funny moments from fighting about cheese and accusing each other, to people wishing to die before each other to receive immortality first, all in all, amusing, interesting and smooth, but it's not over!
Part 2 - Friday 8th of November 20:00
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Part 2 will see the Scourge forces rally under the banner of their leader, Death Knight Zalon, and with the host behind him they will march upon Greenwarden's Grove to eliminate the healing that the kal'dorei can bring to the blight, if they achieve this goal then it's likely no force of arms will eradicate the then, massive Scourge force.
In retaliation to this, the Senate on Thursday, hearing upon of what hammed to Dun Armad [Dun Modr OOCly] will declare a call to arms, calling upon all allies of Ironforge to defend the Wetlands at all costs and issuing this a war of survival.
Event itself: What will happen is rather simple, but interesting. One force that will be led either by Gilran [Marshal of Ironforge] or Vesili [Senator-Marshal] will rally in order to prevent the spread of the Scourge and face the host head-on. The other host, led by the Death Knight Zalón.
What will happen?
People will attend on either side and either be turned into skeletons with Scourge-wizard magic to then join the mighty Scourge host, or they will attend and assist the Alliance forces in fighting off what could be a catastrophic disaster for them.
Alter-ego's are not required for this [unless you mean to die IC and come back as a Scourge minion, which would be awesome and highly encouraged for the atmosphere]
What do I need?
Just yourself, and the add-on GHI which can be acquired here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] it's very easy user friendly.
What sort of combat will take place?
In order to simplify this as much as possible and enhance enjoyment, individuals are encouraged to break off into multiple party chats after the opening 'scenes' and select between themselves whether they wish to use /roll or /duel to play out their combat, it's advised to use a bit of both as it will certainly be more enjoyable that way!
How do I join?
On the day of the event, you must contact Gilran to join the Dwarven-Alliance coalition in defense of the land.
Or you must contact Zalón or Kedilith to join the Scourge host marching upon the living!
Further information to be added if necessary.

Re: [Rise of the Dead] The Scourge Returns
Am I misunderstanding or is it essentially something that peoples' "real" RP chars won't be taking part in? All an alt thing? Just to clarify, as it sounds interesting.

Well unless you want your main character to be butchered and ressurected by the Scourge then no, this is why alter-ego's are HIGHLY encouraged.Feral / Blackfall wrote:Am I misunderstanding or is it essentially something that peoples' "real" RP chars won't be taking part in? Re: [Rise of the Dead] The Scourge Returns
The two people DMing it are Scourge RP veterans that will provide well. Both even obtained their phylacteries and Lich-hood through extensive RP on their main toons so I guess for what that's worth!

Re: [Rise of the Dead] The Scourge Returns
Seeing as the Senate may not convene tonight due to many members being occupied IRL, the handing of the report [which was planned out OOC to happen via RP] may not occur and only be written out in story format [unfortunately].
However, both Friday & Saturday are on the calendar as scheduled and will occur at the given time, regardless of how many people are attending. The event will last as long as the DM's have the energy to create RP [though more notice on this event occurring may have benefited the attendance].
If you are interested in attending these events then it is advised you contact the people listed in the 'Contacts' on the day of the event on their given characters.
As a final note and again, alter-ego's are highly encouraged.

Re: [Rise of the Dead] The Scourge Returns
As the Necromancer continued to drag the unconscious dwarf up the hill, a screeching was heard from above. "They have begun the ritual without me, I am late..". Despair gripped the acolyte for a moment before he quickened his pace and continued to drag the fat dwarf up the hill. With the aid of unholy energies it proved to be no challenge and he eventually found himself behind Zalon, whom himself stood facing a large coffin with ancient engravings upon it.
The coffin gave a weak but resolute pulse of something within it, for now it was unknown. Another necromancer stood to the right of Zalon, and a death to his left, it seems the ritual was ready to begin. Dragging the dwarven body did not prove to be a challenge as he was well incapacitated. At the word of the Death Knight Zalon, his throat was cut and the blood poured forth as the soul was slowly absorbed by the being in the coffin.
The two necromancers chanted side by side and began to remove the lid of the coffin, as soon as they budged it a flock of angry ravens flew from within, tearing at the flesh of both the now dead dwarf and the necromancers - luckily, the death knight whom had stood ever so silently at the beginning next to Zalon sprung into action, tearing them apart and letting them fall apart into ashes.
As the ritual continued and the words were uttered, an eerie silence took hold of the place - the guardian of the tomb seemed to appear out of nowhere, an image, but then reality - a skeletal warrior carrying a runeblade stood before it representing the final barrier to waking this creature up.
The death knight whom stood alongside Zalon was yet again up for the challenge, swinging his mighty rune blade without tiring he had banished the spirit to the realm of shadows and broken the final seal on the coffin.
It had awoken.

Thorvald. You're still in the Cult of the Damned group that we made back when I had a small Cult on AD and we've been using that to revive The Frozen Covenant.
So when you log on you'll have about 600 unread messages in that group alone.
