Epidemics : Prevention, Preparation and Handling

Our Kingdom is currently not in a state of an epidemic. The following instruction are written to encourage prevention and to inform the people on a correct course of action.

Read the following instructions attentively. They may save your life and lives of those around you. You can obtain a copy of this proclamation to take home with you from your nearest apothecary, herbalist, alchemy or doctor's shop.

Read this proclamation to your illiterate neighbours.

1. Prevention

• Wash your hands and face with soap after returning from the street. Wash clothes regularly.
  
• Take out your garbage and soil daily.
  
• Only use water taken from the wells and springs, not the canals or bodies of stale water and refresh it regularly. Do not drink water that has not been boiled.
  
• Avoid suspicious foodstuffs even if they are offered at large discounts.
  
• Keep your house dry and well-ventilated. Crumbling plaster and fungal growth are signs of poor ventilation.

2. Preparation

• Have at least 7 days worth of preservable food in your house for every occupant (pickled and marinaded vegetables, dried or salted meat, hard cheese, nuts, grains and tubers) .
  
• Have reserve water in your house.
  
• Keep your windows, shutters and doors repaired.
  
• Plan ahead with your family on what to do in case of an emergency and who will take care of whom and where the family will meet.
  
• Stash up on essentials : basic medicinal herbs, bandages, vinegar, spirit, candles, firewood.

3. What to do in an epidemic

• Pay close attention to official proclamations and follow the instructions given by representatives of the King.
  
• Avoid going outdoors on non-essential business
  
• Avoid large gatherings, including large prayer sessions. The Light can hear you if you pray in your home too.
  
• If you are worried that you may be infected, head straight to your nearest medical post for quarantine. Medical authorities will notify your family for you.
  
• Report those whom you suspect are sheltering the sick in their homes or avoiding quarantine to the guards.
  
• Do not attempt to leave if you live in urban areas. Servants of His Majesty will conduct an evacuation in an orderly street-by-street fashion to avoid deadly stampedes.
  
• In case of an evacuation, do not attempt to transport your heavy possessions. Pack provisions, clothes, blankets, money and portable valuables only.
  
• Do not attempt to aid the infected in the streets and do not invite them into your home. The military and medical authorities will get to all who are in need.
