While I somehow doubt that the statement about final year at uni is true (too juvenile language and understanding of the topic for that), I feel that the thread lacks something, namely a good response. I know a few of you out there are ninjas at explaining stuff like this to outsiders, so if that's you, you now have something to try to do when you're bored.

What Izaa said. I didn't see any notion of ERP until others started mentioning it.

I don't see how that thread is necessarily linked to ERP, been reading the thread before you linked it in fact. The title of this thread is very, very misleading.

Indeed, there's quite a difference between romantic RP and ERP. It is very much possible to have one without the other. I personally very much enjoy romantic RP and avidly speak out against ERP.

Romantic RP can be very enjoyable, for pretty much anyone I'd say. As for Erotic RP, I'm not going to say wether I've done it or not but fact is that people do do it, but if you do, keep it in a private chat, at a private location and probably a good idea to not have your characters lying down naked where they can be found in case some extremely bored person decides to screen-shot it and make a big fuzz about it.
Some RP leads into ERP and for those mature enough for it are allowed to decide for themselves if they want to play it out or not.
Atleast this is my opinion, -not- saying I run around ERPing all the time, just giving my opinion here.

Agreed, to be fair, if people wanna get off to pixels, then fair enough!
Though some people ERP because they either get off to it, sometimes it's just something their char would do in said situation and they like to go.. ehm, into it.
Either way, as long as you privatise it, keep it away from the others then no problems with it, someones choice to do it!
Funny as hell though when you stumble upon it, some log.. or some just dont give a damn and carry on x)

If you're going to do it in public, and you get caught, keep playing it out IC if you're talked to IC.

If you're going to do the dirty, at least commit to it. Nothing worse than breaking character and just popping your clothes back on instantly like nothing happened.

Edit: For the record, I for one ERP if appropriate and it suits the story. Playing it out IC if caught is an aspect of RP in itself. What better way to make the RP that much more enjoyable, than to play out the IC embarassment.

Once, my character had his door knocked on just as he'd come to the end of a 'session'. The players knew what I was doing and thought they'd get a giggle out of embarassing me... Only to turn the tables on them when he answered the door ICly naked with everything on show. Hey, if you're going to RP it out, at least commit to it if caught.

I do honestly disagree with that statement. That being that the Gnomes look like children.
If you take a look at how they actually look like, not their size, they actually look perfectly adult. It's just the size that throws people off.

But that doesn't mean the character Reyleigh can't think they look like children.

Oh no, he's free to do so if he so desires.

Personally, when my character is in a position where they'd have a sexual encounter of some kind, I prefer going with the fade to black/timeskip approach. So I don't actually ERP, as I cut the encounter before anybody gets naked. I'll usually play parts of the foreplay right up untill the "this is where sex" part to set the terms and such of what happens, agree on an ending point, if anything happens during it that'd warrant comments from my characters, for example I've twice experienced my character boning a virgin and that kind of things.

Ix, imo you ERP. You just don't do the sex. But Foreplay is very much erotic fucking roleplay.

But I agree on Raene's points about getting caught. Turn it on them instead.
