Bearly Active? (Sorry about that...)
Because sunday is the day for forum blaabering, I figured I could post this little topic here. I'm not necessarilly looking for this type of activity at this very moment, but I just figured I could ask about it's current state.
So yeah...pandas! How's the activity with that? Active players/guilds? More importantly on the Horde side of the fence, since that is where my panda resides. Even if I would love to also take part in some cross-faction (panda) meetings, since I haven't seen any of those since the days of Mistrunners and Nature's Grasp...

The Pandaren of Blooming Lotus are always up for some cross-faction pub crawling with our Red friends. Just add my battletag: Maarten#2370.
You won't be able to participate in most of our events if your character is Horde though for the simple reason that communication is so clunky and you can't invite characters from the other faction in your party/raid.

Your thread over at registry certainly peaked my interest. I haven't really dipped my furred toes into any pandaren roleplaying, but I guess that shouldn't be a major issue when you can't understand anything I say and I can just observe you lot from the side. So I think I could try and drop by some day, preferably when you happen to be in a comfy, neutral tavern.

"Wasame ding tamponi duti mazete wooga" in speechbubbles is still visible, even if I can't understand shite! Of course attending meetings regulary where you don't understand anything would become tedious, but dropping by one out of interest shouldn't be too bad...not to mention that I have also attended meetings/events of certain Horde folks numerous times in the past, where it might as well been moon language they were using, since I just sat there and looked around. Though in this case I might be able to drag some other Horde pandas with me to take a look at our 'cousins' as well and have a chat while at it.

Well, tonight we are going on an expedition in Uldum; depending on how that pans on, we'll either stay in Southern Kalimdor a bit longer or (finally) return to Pandaria. If the latter's the case, you can come visist us in the Dancing Serpent, the Tavern we usually use as a meeting place.
But, like I said, just add my Battletag and we'll set something up.

Might not be able to make it tonight, but I'll at least try and add your battletag. Thanks for the invite in any case!

What is Blizzard's excuse for Pandaren of either faction not being able to understand one another?

I think they just said something about there being no other excuse, than for the sake of game mechanics.

Voice chips installed under the fur on your throat to scramble your voice? Those goblins/gnomes and their shenanigans...though Gor'Thrak's answer is probably more valid.Vaell wrote:What is Blizzard's excuse for Pandaren of either faction not being able to understand one another?
I think it would be fun to be able to understand even just random, partial words in sentences by other faction players, if something. I sure long for the good olde days of emote&mindcontrol discussions...

There is no lore explaination. They should be able to understand one another. It's just game mechanics.

Garrosh Hellscream says: Some of your kind chose to join the Alliance. You may have had friends and kin who chose to cast their lot with the enemies of the Horde. They are no longer your friends... no longer your family. They are now your enemies. The minute they put on that Alliance tabard, they died. I will NOT tolerate any lingering ties across enemy lines. Traitors to the Horde will die a traitor's death!
Varian Wrynn says: Some have sided with the Horde. They, along with the other barbarian clans of the Horde, are your new enemies. Those who you once considered friends, or even those you might have loved, are now your sworn adversaries. I am deeply sorry, but the battle lines have been drawn. I will not tolerate any fraternizing with the enemy, as you could expose our Alliance to danger.
I've always interpreted the inability of Tushui and Houjin to understand each other to be tied into the above dialogue - they are sworn not to fraternize with 'the enemy', and so no communication is possible. Of course, not every pandaren will obey Garrosh and Varian's orders, but the game itself usually places your character in the position of archetypal Horde or Alliance hero, who more or less does everything he's told as long as he gets XP and loot at the end.
I don't mean to say that you can't RP a Tushui/Houjin who communicates with the other side, but as far as an actual explanation for the language barrier, this is the explanation that makes most sense.

In my view, it's more an explanation why they kick each others ass rather than the language barrier....

Most sense gives the game mechanics and Sadok's explanation.

Sadly, Sadok, this explenation is unavailable to most of the Pandaren of the Blooming Lotus, since we're supposed to be neutral and affiliated with either Pandaria or the Shado-Pan. My character in particular as you know doesn't exactly trust the Alliance. It's a good explenation, but only if you strictly stick to the game mechanics, something role-players don't tend to do much

I feel that Pandaren ought to understand each other - Why? Shifting allegiances does not make an individual forget a language. It's relatively simple.

Not possible because of game mechanics. You can't even see emotes from people on your own faction when you're dueling them.

They do, but they dont speak anymore to eachother as mentioned earlier.(lorewise) So the situation would never come up if you are RPing the story out as blizzard intended for huojin/Tushui. And yes many of us arent RPing tushui or huojin but they have to make choices for the mechanics(imagine the rage between pandaren gankers), why even discuss it?
And yes it could happen you eavesdrop on two pandas in a neutral zone and you ought to understand, but we also don't ought to ride dragons. It's a game. Personally I was more bothered with Taran Zhu appearing first time and talking to us in english/common...
