Chapter of Holy Anethion - 2013 edition

This is not a recruitment post or an IC announcement. Both will follow later. This is a discussion-thread to iron last kinks out of the concept and create some hype.

Back in 2009 there were two active cults and heretics were plentiful. The days of patrolling Stormwind and returning with a witch on each arm are over. After some thinking, we have decided to take the guild in a new direction while leaving it unmistakably Chapter .

The Archlectorate of Stormwind can be compared to something that would be called the See of Stormwind in RL terms, a diocese (ecclesiastical province) with a high-ranking priest running it. The guild will shift to being the personnel of the Archlectorate, several individuals working together under direction of the Archlector to further the Anethionean cause in Stormwind.

The guild’s focus shifts towards religion and politics. There will be a lot more active religious RP such as masses, prayers, cleansings, exorcisms, confessions and preaching on the street. The Inquisition too will occupy itself more with uncovering dirt and political manipulation, although there will still be plenty of time to hunt down any darkcaster or scum that dares show itself in Stormwind.

Military branch of the guild will have its hands full with politically-motivated activities. They will hunt down baddies if baddies are there, but you should expect to see a lot more patrolling to keep the streets safe and even attempts at training citizens –and- guards in the art of fighting Evil (and indoctrination). The most important change is the reduction of scope. The guild will be no larger than the playerbase in it, and for as long as we remain small and active, every member will be actively involved in guild RP and decision making for the good of the Archlectorate.

The transition, with IC announcement, happens on 7th of January.

So, see you all in the New Year with more zealotry, fanaticism and hallmark Chapter deviousness and political machinations. So yes, in a way the Chapter moved out of the middle ages and into the renaissance! *commissions some works of arts to glorify the Anethionean saints*

Have a few queries.

Interesting, but, doesn't this belong on your registry/own forum? It would have really been more interesting to see the transition ICly rather than it being explained OOC!

Also, does this mean that non-existent staff will be increased? I always see references here and there to both NPC's and troops well, that aren't really there.

Namely, will the Archlectorate talk about a base of followers/people/workers it does not have represented by players? And what role will this play in the development of the guild?

I must ask, will the Chapter try to be more visible on the RP-PvP stage? When i organized the Jade Fist i asked for the Chapter to come but the playerbase had dwindled to nonexistant, admitted that there were 2 Shadowbreakers attending the War Council held several days before.

Also, if you have an Archlectorate...thing in Stormwind, doesn't that require a building? Though, what place could be better than the Cathedral itself (more life there would always be nice!), and the crypts even got necessary equipment to still be the Chapter! May the torture of warlocks and witches never end

In my experience, it is always better to post things OOCly beforehand to get some feedback. Especially where Chapter is concerned. In the past, several new initiatives produced some drama that could've been prevented if they were posted and discussed beforehand. So, just covering my ass here.

Non-existant staff:
Grand Inquisitor Melissa (she stopped playing due to RL, so it is more like leaving a chair in hope she comes back one day)
Supreme Lector Waldemar (he is the Head of Religion, he won't micromanage, but could be a useful device in limited number of cases. Such as validating new doctrine ...if it is ever needed)

There will be no invisible troops used in RP or referenced at all, players = staff of the Archlectorate. No more, no less. There will be no unrepresented workers, unless absolutely demanded by some event/plot (example: a young lector was murdered, we must investigate). Devotees will obviously be referenced a lot, used to justify the Archlectorate's existance and off-screen activities "I was conducting a wedding the over evening." What you won't see are things like 'The anethionean faithful rise up in arms and lock down the Cathedral District! I will change the rhetoric based on pure RP influence. If we have no converts outside the guild, the devotees are a puny minority. if we have many converts outside the guild, the devotees are a strong minority. In RP, it will have the influence of making the Archlectorate -richer- (more generous charity-events, more bribes, hiring mercenaries, better equipment) and of course bolder rhetoric.

No, RP-pvp never really works out with the Chapter, always causes some minor internal drama. There are no solid plans, and rp-pvp is not high on priority list. We start RPing that the Church of the Holy Light does not allow us to do business in the Cathedral (after all, would the Pope want some Protestant priests to set up a rival congregation in St Peter's?). We will begin using the library opposite of the Stockade and work our way to acceptance in the Cathedral through RP.


PS: the fact that these questions were asked, and I had to think to answer them, and they made me think more about the concept, fully justifies the creation of this thread! *wink at Vangrel*

Very well! It just feels a bit off that an Archlectorate subservient to it's own Church and not to the Church of Light in Stormwind and to it's hierarchy is setting up shop.

I do love all the Papal connotations and this guild transition though, so I shall be watching ever so closely.

Though one final question, regarding your "acceptance through RP". Considering the priest player base is not exactly broad or large, who is actually going to accept you and what stops this Archlectorate from simply "moving in" to the Cathedral? Nobody represents everybody.

We discussed returning into the Church's fold, so far there was unanimous OOC opposition to the idea in the guild. But who knows, things might change.

Well, there is Jeremias, Shariah, Emiraude...the Disciples of Light, Jarric Buckholme. There is opposition, but I hope that running around and stealing souls will kick the Church-RPers into action.

Though one final question, regarding your "acceptance through RP". Considering the priest player base is not exactly broad or large, who is actually going to accept you and what stops this Archlectorate from simply "moving in" to the Cathedral? Nobody represents everybody.

Ultimately the only person who can grant the Chapter permission to RP in Cathedral, or withhold it, is the leader of the Chapter (me for transition-period till things are on track). So I will 'taste the air'. For example, I go and declare some Religious Lecture event....in Cathedral itself. Then watch the reaction. If people don't mind ICly, next time it will be a mass. Then it will be Chapter actively RPing in cathedral. What you obviously won't see is a big fanfare thread of "Chapter is Finally Allowed in the Cathedral!" It will be gradual and quiet. So, if you really don't want us around....wait for me to post an event, log Vitalian and make a riot

Unfortunately, Stormwind RP is too OOC for me and I have gotten rid of Vitalian. But I will with interest observe this, so the best of luck and I hope Melissa returns to the game soon and the Chapter is back in action.

Aye, I hope Melissa gets better. And we are already in action. We are starting RP this week already, in fact got first briefing tonight. 7th of january is the official announcement day. So, in fact, transition is IC *grin*. We just wait with Full Official Announcement until everything is built up.
