Prometheus
WARNING: COULD CONTAIN SPOILERS AFTER THE INITIAL POST
I just came back from seeing it and I've got to say it is one of the best films I've seen in a long time. Visually stunning, the 3D added an incredible depth of field and just everything you could see immersed you into the world. It has got some bad reviews because the story doesn't give enough information, but that is one of my favorite things about it. A true Alien film and therefore up there in my top 20 films of all time.
Anyone else seen it yet? Also, I can't wait for theories on all of the little unanswered questions.

Re: Prometheus
Just came home from it. It was fantastic.
Everything I expected, and then that touch of "Riddly Scott" I thought he'd lost over the last decade.
Some might be angry it didn't contain that much information. But the Alien movies never have. You get bits and pieces and get to puzzle it out for yourself.
But yes. the movie was great ...

- Spoiler:
- Love of the mood of it was set right from the start, With the landscapes, with some beautiful shown 3D. Some of the best I've seen, how it was... sublime rather than IN YOUR FACE!. But those natureshots, with some ambient sounds and the music. Set you up for the full film.
Then the small tieins to the pree hype. The Lawrence of America thing and everything.
Two very strong female characters.
Yea, now I want it on Blu-ray otherwise I might be forced to see it again.

I really liked it. Big fan of the alien series myself, but this was just ace. Fassbender was indeed sweet, and I think Rapace and Theron were ace.
The theories afterwards are always fun to have and discuss. Perhaps we'll see if there's a sequal, if there is, I heard it'll (read; I read it on wikipedia) take the story further away from the alien franchise.

- Spoiler:
- I giggled when I saw "Fassbender"... xD
Aside from that, Theron's butt and the shots in the opening scene, I'm not all that impressed, to be honest. It was too little movie over too much time. The story was mediocre, at best. Just another origin story, and I feel like I've seen it all before.
I love the previous Alien films, but this one was sadly lacking in the department of action. And nothing really made me have to think either, so I was all "Meh.. My eyes hurt from these fucking 3D glasses"
Granted, the 3D was cool, and it was a "pretty" movie, but I found it overrated and overblown, with no real substance to justify the hype it's gotten.
Also, I hate that we only got 10 seconds of -proper- Alien.
There's no real question at the end either. It's quite clear that these "Engineers" made us to be a breeding-ground for this black swirly stuff that look like sperm.
All in all, not happy with it, and I find it a shame that this is the movie I blew money on proper 3D glasses for.
Re: Prometheus
Anyone interested, Alien (original movie) is on channel 4 at the moment, just started.

- I personally felt the story was incredible due to how anti-linear it was compared to most films. It didn't follow a certain 3 act structure, it was very disjointed and felt right for an origin story. Alien the original had barely any action. In fact, you see the Alien so little in it because it was a guy in a suit and Ridley Scott didn't want to give that away.
I thought the story was unpredictable, the trailers gave nothing away so every single scene was a pleasant surprise. Ridley Scott didn't want this to be a focus on Aliens, he wanted it to be a focus on the origin. I didn't want to see an Alien until I found out more about the Engineers.
As for the questions bit, how the hell do you know they made us for that? The way I perceived it was that they were dissapointed in humanity and were creating something to destroy them. You've assumed you know, when you do not.
Questions that were left unanswered though...
1. Purpose of the Engineers. Did they create us? Did they evolve from us?
2. Purpose of trying to wipe us out. Dissapointment? To create something new? An event?
3. Why did Weyland want a specimen so badly? In Alien and Aliens, it was about the discovery of a race they already knew about but if Weyland only wanted them for his own health, what else was he planning? (An ongoing theme of Weyland Corp and still unanswered)
4. What was David's true purpose? He infected that scientist and clearly wanted to bring the 'baby' in the protagonist back but why in such a style? Why didn't he just bring one through a quarantine? Did he know what the infection would do?
5. Why did the surgery table only respond to males? It could be to help Weyland in case he was hurt? Or possibly they were planning on bringing back an Engineer?
6. Why did the alien 'goo' react differently to males than females? It impregnated the girl but the guy turned into some hulk beast.
7. The Beginning was full of Enigma. What planet was that? If it was Earth, why did he commit suicide? What was that device he used? Was that the creation of humanity or to escape the event that made them leave Earth?
8. What is the origin of the Engineers? Do they have a high population or was that facility one of very few and there is not many of them left?
9. Who/What caused the outbreak? If there was one, surely there would have been aliens? Or must you use a human host THEN a Engineer one to create what we know as the Alien?
10. They never found what made the movement by the sensor. Was it an Alien? Was it one of the smaller ones?
11. Why were they terraforming? They seem stronger than humanity as that one was able to run the distance from the ship to the escape pod with surviving the CO2 in the air for an extended period.
12. Why did they invite humanity to the planet? Was it for an experiment? Were they trying to contact humanity when it became technologically advanced only? What created those drawings? Did humanity have contact with the engineers in the past?
13. In Alien they found the same type of ship but on a different planet. Is this the same ship the protagonist flies off in? Or could it be another installation elsewhere?
There is a bunch of questions that were left unanswered. You can create theories about them, assume certain things but most of it lies in enigma and mystery. We won't find out until the sequel, most likely. But to say it left no questions makes me question if you were watching the same movie... or if your taste in movies is more along the Michael Bay route

Re: Prometheus
I think everyone who said "not enough Action" expected an action flick. Easily understandable from the trailers and teasers.
It is far more Thriller. Which I liked. It's far more like Alien than Aliens. So, suspense, slow build, etc. Instead of AAAAAAAAAARRRG!
For the sort of movie it is I'd say it's quite acton packed even. =P

Re: Prometheus
Awesome movie, back to the roots with scott, more sci-fi-horror, less sci-fi action from the cameron years.
