i much prefer early-mid Death though, when they were just turning from your typical death metal band into something more technical and jazz influenced, examples:

just listen to that riff and the interplay around 1:21, thats the type of shit i love in metal - no other metal bands were playing around in those time signatures and with fretless basses at that time



and the riff at 1:04 on this

Personally, I really like the Leprosy album, though The Sounds of Perseverance and Individual Thought Patterns comes high up the list.

I don't get the appeal for death/screamo/satanicwhatever metal ... it's so horrible. It's so discordant and just terrible sounding ... it actually makes me feel physically unwell and apparently very discordant music like screamo/death metal actually encourages aggression so it's medically bad for you!!!!

death metal isn't at all discordant.

they usually adhere to typical major or minor melodies and theres very little cases of chord clashes, jesus, most metal bands just use power chords alone.
