Family Traits

This thread is more or less about what your character has gained from their heritage. I was working on a project in college a few weeks ago that concerned what I had inherited from my parents/grand parents. And basic genetics, for one I learned my Grandfather was an albino, and that gene skips a generation, so either myself or my sisters could have a child with albinism. Scary shit, but very interesting!

So being a huge nerd I thought I'd apply this logic to RP. We all know the Thorgints' are known for their brawn, and the Mistmantles' are known for their intellect, but what does your character have from heritage/family?
It could be a special technique that's been passed down through the family.
Perhaps a weapon? Or even a piece of precious jewellery?
It can even be just as simple as eye or hair type/colour too!

Coppersocket... This lady has taken much from her family.

Let's start with the obvious, traits that anyone should be aware of.. Her hair and eyes are green, just like the rest of her family.
She got a small round nose, which comes off of her mother, as her quite tiny chest.

Copper inherited her height from her grandfather, who was a very short Gnome.

Almost everything Copper wears, aside from possibly her underwear, are things she has inherited. Meaning, she has inherited quite a bit of items, this makes her look richer than she actually is, cause- like her parents, she is pretty poor.

She got her mothers round cheeks, her dads hearing (tone deaf), her mothers eyesight (bad), her mothers' hairbottom... Well, I could go on, but I suppose the most visible ones are:

She got large sunken eyes, a slim nose bridge with a rounded tip, a small chest, thick short fingers- all from her mothers side.
A nicely rounded bum, a small forehead, small chin, somewhat sort legs and arms, from her fathers side.

The name comes from her mothers side, inherited from her great grandma.

Drustai didn't really inherit anything special. She didn't have a talent for magic like the rest of her family, nor did she get handed down any heirlooms.

About the most that Dru takes from her heritage is that she's a spitting image of her mother, both in appearance and in personality. Although her violet skin comes from her father.

Manathon's father is the most amazing fisherman that ever lived, which has in a lesser degree been passed down to him.

Neither of Xildon's parents can do much with engineering, and neither can he. Also, his mother was a traveller!

Riz'han's grandfather was named "the Mad", for doing stupid things. Riz'han, too, does stupid things (though he is mostly called 'idiot').

Uh, Erchel's parents (and some of his grandparents) are mages? I haven't figured out which are and which aren't, but it works. Also, he inherited his grandfather's name (who, obviously, was also named 'Erchel').

EDIT: Seems I forgot that Manathon also inherited his father's awesome beard. It's worth mentioning.

Nessra's family line has been creating and working with poisons for centuries, thus granting most of them partial or full immunity to most poisons.

None of my other characters have inherited anything out of the ordinary, except for the usual tradeskills that often get passed down from parents to their children.

Victoria was born a half-elf and spent her entire life not knowing anything of her mother; save for only that she was human and the very woman to blame for the prejudist Victoria faced, she grew up both longing for her and loatheing her entirely.

On her Quel'dorei side Victoria inherited excellent atheletic structure, a capacity to become a talented Farstrider (Or Deathstalker?) and a few bits of land scattered across what we know as The Ghostlands, most of them claimed by The Sin'dorei as a whole or the lingering Scourge within the area. She visits there from time to time.

Timna inherited the slim body and short stature of her parents, as well as her father's side's silvertongue.
In terms of items, well... you'll have to find out!

Faralan's father was non-gifted with magic, the biggest trait of the Thorgints, the name itself translates to "Great Mind", so he became a blacksmith, working up the physical traits his children would come to earn in birth instead of magic, too.

However, Faralan does have a greater mind when it comes to the military and combat, aswell as at times (in his area of expertise, atleast) can be rather wise.
He's lived most of his life away from his family, been raised by warriors and knights.
He's got his mother's hair and eyes. He possess no items that come directly from his family.




Trave Andrew, a.k.a Clay Farglade was raised by his Uncle, a half-zealous half-faithful paladin, he too a Farglade. His blonde hair comes from his father, and his eyes from his mother. His faith(Pre-falling from grace) from his Uncle.
He used to possess a seal ring, the Farglade one. However he gave it to the youngest of their line, Timna. Whom is his cousin.

Morinth inherited her fathers messy dark hair, pale skin and foul mouth. She learned most of her bad words listening in on his cussing! She was a daddies girl. Her mother was prim, and proper.

Like both, she became a Farstrider. And like her father, she became involved in dangerous missions. Whereas he was a spy for his people and worked with other elves, she joined the Hordes Shattered Hand and worked with other races.

She also has his short temper, unlike her sister who is more of a calming influence. Like their mother.

Ray Hutch inherited dark hair, dark skin and brown eyes from his parents. Hutch not really being his real last name. He wouldn't know much about his family, if it held any heirlooms of some kind or not. (Probably not!) If his parents had any good aspects, Ray didn't inherit them. The only thing they ever gave him besides regular beat-downs before their early deaths was a fang-necklace.

Skarain's story have left open for the family part. She could be anything or from any family who have been around in Lordaeron & Gilneas 30-40 years ago or even further to the past, but i imagine part of her heritage being her raw talent in Arcane.

(Is entirely open for finding her real roots someday)

Would be that the majority of the clan was smithies. Before the invasions, that is.

Emrys' father was most like her, a calm, kind and religious paladin that loved to travel, whenever he came home he would tell her stories of all kinds, fuelling Emrys' own desire to see more of the world.
From her mother, she gained most of her looks, her curiousity, her cheekyness and the desire to follow her heart first, the 'normal' thing to do later.

Delidah doesn't really have family to speak of, but she's certainly taken away some traits from her creator, High Wizard Theodore Wellsworth.

And let's just say that includes an affection for magical experimentation and tomfoolery.

Dréfurion has a thing for the melodramatics, just like his father, he's also his spitting image. He has his mother's blood-craze when he loses his temper.

Nalira doesn't really look like her parents (or her brother for that matter) she just has the same deep-purple hair. Nalira has the blood-craze too, but unlike her mother, she's in a constant state of it.

The siblings share a couple of family heirlooms, most of them damaged by a Horde-caused fire, that tell the tale of their highborne ancestory. Alas, the most informative one was taken away from Dréfurion by Aariam, and she doesn't want to give it back.

Arenfel(He's in italics, how sophisticated) - Arenfel inherited more than he would like to admit from his father, and some more gentle traits from his mother. The Serpentine lineage have been Magi and Mage-Hunters since the point where the Elves granted Humans the Arcane, back in the Arathorian Era. That factors into his animalistic surname, which was the first Serpentine's rite animal. Through purebreeding, inbreeding (in more barbaric times), and rigid training the children of the family are bred for the Arcane.

His eyes are very prominent in displaying this affinity, emitting a dim glow of royal blue light that can be seen in low light conditions. It gives a greater perception of magic through the sense of sight. It also makes it impossible, or next to impossible to mask his presence as a Mage. Trained since he was old enough to hold a staff without fumbling, he's been harshly schooled by his father to a point of child abuse.

Mikhael - Mikhael is the middle child of three siblings, granting him a great deal of patience and negotiation. You would too, if you had to be the mediator between a younger and elder sister. His father ran an enchanting and reagent shop in Gilneas, but his mother was more important to his current life. She raised him a Harvest Cleric, and near-enough indoctrinated him in Druidism. He inherited his mothers physical strength, but unfortunately also took on some of his fathers chronic otherthinking tendancies.

Zalissa is said to be identical to her mother, same face, same complexion and the same build, but has her fathers' thick black hair and blue eyes, so it makes his appearance more distinguishable in her - which she hates. She also has his temper and impatience, and his affinity for pirate-dealings. I.e. having a natural talent and interest in boats and nautical shares in general.

Alorah has a very iconic heritage. She's from a very old noble family that originated in Dalaran, so she has inherited a lot of money from it, but the most notable thing of her family or clan is their unique ability to create crystals from raw power. These differ from mana gems because they can be manipulated into weapons and are not supplementary consumables. They also exist forever and attract mana, so they can be used as pylons for magic, unless the creator that made them dies, in which case every crystal they have made will shatter. The Starwhisper symbol is a rhombus shape on their forehead, and this acts as a threshold of mana, which basically means they can tap into mana they've been gathering for years when ever their base mana runs out, meaning they're very formidable opponants, as this means they can virtually not run out of mana in battle, using this ability also shortens their lifespan however, which is why more high elves exist in the Starwhisper family than humans. As for appearance, most high elf Starwhispers look the same, blonde hair, pale, symmetrical features - all traits Alorah has gained from birthright.

Tylaen had a brilliance for alchemy passed down although he never took use of his natural talent untill after he fell from grace.

He also inherited a lack a wild curiousity and a strong hate for when things weren't working out for him, usually becoming moody. He leaves when that kicks in...for his own good.

Annabelle Emberstone, The older sister to both Saphra and Mikhael Emberstone, inheritted her mother's light skin and red hair, but her father's dark eyes and tendency towards a more logical way of life. She wasen't particularly gifted towards magic, but her fathes teachings and her ' Daddys girl mentality ' (although she will never admit it.) helped her greatlu in becoming the Elementalist she is today, she frequently remembers the strict and encouraging words of her father whenever she studies or has a longing ache to pratice her craft. She also inheritted his enchanting store by law, but it is currently under Forsaken occupation.

She seems to have adopted his more ' southern ' views as well, never really being fond of The Harvest or even The Light to a degree, she is far from pious and often finds Mikhaels wielding of nature magic rather primitive and his embrasive nature towards the curse; disappointing.

She would no doubt have a huge fit if she knew the trouble her younger sister has been getting into, but her commitments to Dalaran and inturn her commitment to her spellcrafting has kept her a part from her siblings, the distance seems to be growing by the weeks.

Saphra's most obvious inherited trait is her southern father's skintone. This gives her a rather dark complexion compared to most Gilneans and clearly identifies her mixed heritage--something that got her into a bit of trouble due to Gilneas' attitude towards foreigners. Her black hair color was also inherited from her father, but this does not make her stand out like her skin tone, as dark hair is common for Gilneans. For the most part, Saphra largely resembles her father and has few of her mother's traits--even her eye color comes from her father.

Like Anna, Saphra wasn't very gifted towards magic. She gave up on it quickly, however, as she wasn't as smart as her sister and her father was already focused more on Anna's education. Likewise, Saphra didn't really get into harvest magic, though she is a believer of both the Light and the harvest traditions. Her listening to her heart instead of her head (as her father and sister do) was something that she did get from her mother, though she is not as pious as her mother or brother.

Saphra's general behavior is another trait of her family. She was raised to always be polite and respectful, and has mostly maintained this in spite of having become a criminal. In fact, she is probably the most well-mannered of the siblings, as she lacks both her sister's pride and her brother's aggression.

Aerain has most of the nature/emotional structure from his Mother, along with his eyes. The only general characteristics that he shares with his "father" are his sharp/defined face and his hair colour, which are quite unrelated attributes.
As with most Stormwindian's, He has a generally white skin-tone, which can be seen by most people, which doesn't make him fairly noticable or stand out from the Crowd.

His behavior however is very misleading, He has his days where he can be a (Bordering on) recluse, prefering to either spend time in his own company or prefering to remain quiet to those around him, only speaking when spoken to. This contrasts to the other side of his behavior, where he can act quite outgoing or determinded in his own way (such determination is genuinely strong at best, however, it is usually frayed quickly under certain circumstances).

His magical ability/talent seeming dependant on his mood, which has caused him some confusion on determining a school. He ended up reverting to writting down the schools of magic (excluding necromancy, of course) down on parchment, randominizing them and then picking one at random, in which he know has his -revised- school, taking it as chance to determine it.

He really doesn't have any of the talent that his "father" has, however, he does retain his mother's caring nature towards nearly everyone, even prisoners in some cases, depending on their situation and crime. However, his one true trait that he carries by himself, seemingly from no-where is his keen memory, and his ability to remember a paragraph or phrase from a book that he simply skims through, aided much by his little familiar Abercrombie.

Vale has inherited quite a bit from her family/clan, the Caans: the typical pale complexion and dark hair, for one, but also the mentality that one has to fight for survival, that each person needs to be able to stand on their own (survival of the fittest ho!), and that blood ties are important above all else.

It's also their fault that she's fucked up

Annie keeps a dirk with her almost all the time that belonged to Dorian Andural, her long dead lover who taught her how to survive in the world. It's a fine weapon for a scruffy thug like her: well-worked Alteracian steel with a handsome red pommelstone. It's been stolen from her a couple of times, and the thief has never come to a good end.

There we go~ Finally edited my post. Took some time, and didn't get as large as I had hoped. Oh well! Very simple...

Sullee inherited nothing from his mother. She was smart, introverted, quiet and of a normal weight. He never grew a bond with his mother as she died when he was a child.
Sullee's father was a traveling merchant, who liked to give entertaining shows on the side. At a later age he joined a faire so that he could travel more safely. Sullee grew up in this bunch of oddballs. His father had grown bald at a young age, and was known for his bushy brown beard and his drinking problem.

His uncle, Pollee Swiftspeech, took care of Sullee most of the time. Pollee was a enthusiastic, thick, superstitious and merry gnome. Sullee also shares his love for food with his uncle, yet gains weight a lot faster. In essence, Sullee slowly formed into a image of his uncle.
