Raiding for the Occasional Adventurer Empty Raiding for the Occasional Adventurer

Post by Valestrion Sun Oct 30, 2011 8:07 pm

I have a yearning to raid occasionally. Following the Cataclysm storyline, I have been through the original dungeons and heroics but would like to complete each of the raids, except Firelands, at least once before I move on to the Zandalar dungeons. However, as I am sure is the case for many of us roleplayers, getting into a raid when you are not a hardcore raider isn't easy, particularly when you are a Retribution paladin. Is there any raiding group out there who would be prepared to invite me along some time (iLevel 350 as melee DPS), or are there any other likeminded Alliance souls who would like to get together on an occasional basis for a little raiding? I'm looking for BH or BWD to begin.

I could easily dedicate myself to creating a raiding group for rpers, but we'd have to discuss days as i do have other raids to attend and such.

I just dinged 85 today and have an iLvl of 350-ish. Very Happy I'd love to help out. Gearing up my warrior for tanking, so once I've gained some tanking items, give me a shout. I know the basic tactics, my pirates used to run in to those ones for t3h lulz.

^This sentence souns a bit weird. Zandalar dungeons are way more easier than any of the raids. You could start with those, gather up some gear and then move on to raiding Smile

Actually, zandars are in a sense almost harder than BWD BOT and Throne, you just need more people for the raids :p

As someone who has tried to raid with other RPers before, you really need to make sure everyone is putting in the effort and nobody is slacking Razz

Yeah i know, tried it plenty and i personally can be abit harsh if i am lead, though no random outbursts :p If people want to raid, ill poke them, check out thier shit and if they need gear, ill go and help them gear in roics and also see what they can do there, muahahah!

I have to admit, i hate failure, so I would indeed do a ton of checking up and making sure people put in the effot.

But then again, i havent been told to lead shit all Very Happy

Raiding for the Occasional Adventurer Empty Re: Raiding for the Occasional Adventurer

As someone who has lead a raiding Alliance of RP guilds back in TBC it is a very hard and time consuming thing to do. However if done right it is also very rewarding!

Problems I faced:

1. Effort, some RP'ers want to see the raids but don't want to raid... They are too busy chatting and having a laugh rather than helping the group, now I do understand that, but to see the whole raid everyone needs to be focussed and working together. Getting RP'ers to grind Heroics and such for gear can be an absolute nightmare!

2. Gear, not a lack of it as such, more that some people love to blame gear rather than their failure to study and follow tactics. It was the final nail in the coffin for me and my raiding alliance in one of the Tier 5 instances when people constantly failed to follow instructions, when we kept wiping and myself and the other raid leader (Amaryl) got very annoyed, all the people not listening all retorted with "We're RP'ers, we don't have the gear." I would say one or two of the raid didn't have adequate gear, but they wouldn't accept they weren't doing it right. In a raiding guild, you just GKick these people, not so easy in a casual RP raiding alliance.

3. Time, Rpers tend to have a lot of demands on their in game time, events, WPvP, council meetings and so on, this hinders time to raid and prepare.

4. No consistency, more often than not a raid for a raid instance one week will be completely different from one the week before and the week after, this hinders teamwork. The best time we had was when we had a very stable spine which meant we learnt to work very well together. As that changed, we slowed down.

Having said all this, if you want to get something like this going, I'd love to be involved and do some Tanking for you, I have leading experience although it is back in TBC.

I have been leading guilds and raid leaded through my whole time playing wow and i know what a pain it can be with rpers, but if people want to try.. Im up for the leading aspect and all the like as stated above.

Id have to go into detail with people about it though and they would have to be serious about it if they want to see the content.

Well should we all post the characters we would use to try and get a decently balanced raid sorted out, for me it would be a fury or arms warrior with ilvl 358.

Prot Warrior, not sure on Ilevel, although I'd get it up to whatever level needed in time to raid quite happily.

Edited Item Level currently 348, however not hard for me to get that bumped up in time.

I could pitch in on my hunter or druid tank, both of them around 360ish ilvl in PVE gear. It depends much on the day though, as I'm busy on four evenings of the week ._.
I've healed and ranged/melee dpsed all of the current content, so the tactics or explaining the tactics wouldn't be a problem for me personally.

Edit: I'm free on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Retribution Paladin - iLevel 350 (taken from Armoury for worn gear when equpped for DPS)

We may need to bend the rules a bit on melee DPS. So far, I only see one ranged DPS volunteer.

As regards times, Saturday afternoons or any time Sunday would suit me best. I can probably be available after 2100 on Wednesdays and Thursdays too, but I'm guessing that may be a bit late for some people.

Later times suit me more, best way is first get a list of everyone interested, then sort times and days.

The problem with bending the rules on the Melee DPS part is that mechanics on some bosses are far better handled by ranged.

beyond even that, some encounters just plain have "you must have this many ranged dps" as an implicit requirement and will wipe you outright if you don't heed it.
