The Ironbreaker Council Empty The Ironbreaker Council

Post by Grim Tue Oct 21, 2014 8:42 pm

This thread will be used as a general update thread on the activities of the Ironbreaker Council - a loose organisation of the Blood Wolves, Shatterskull Marauders, Second Gurubashi Empire and Flying Bolts planning to take the war to the Iron Horde.

Anyone else taking part in this campaign, please feel free to make additions to this thread.

The Ironbreaker Council forms, a confederation of equals preparing to take the fight to the Iron Horde. As of 20th October they are based in Grom'Gol, Strangelthorn while they prepare themselves for the coming campaign.
Meanwhile Elaria and Danroth of the Blood Wolves head to Undercity to investigate portal magicks there.

21st October - Three ships are hired. One, a leaky old warship is named the Shatter-Iron. The other two are fat, ugly transport vessels; these are named the Flying Iron and the Blood Iron.
Work begins on preparing these ships for war. Weapons are gathered and sharpened, armour is repaired. Elaria leads an allied group of Flying Bolts and Blood Wolves to capture reagents for a spell she is planning after her research in Undercity.
Meanwhile, an old friend of the Blood Wolves and the Marauders makes an appearance and another old friend travels off alone to seek an honourable death.
A couple of Blood Wolves travel into the jungle to hunt for food for the campaign, another Blood Wolf ensures that there is a hefty supply of alcohol.

22nd October - The Empress of the Gurubashi and her warriors pledge to join the Ironbreaker Council to combat the Iron Horde. Oaths are sworn and knees are bent, allowing the trolls to join with no loss of pride. Even the normally insular Gurubashi recognise the danger posed by the Iron Horde.

23rd October - The Ironbreaker Council take ship to the Blasted Lands. Their ships sail safely and the Ironbreakers disembark unopposed.
Jarilo of the Wolves leads one group to make a camp and fortify it. The camp is on the location of another recently destroyed one, complete with abandoned cannons. The Ironbreakers make it their home but are attacked by large numbers of wolf riding Iron Horde orcs. Fierce fighting ensues, but the Ironbreakers manage to to chase the attackers off.
Sca'fon of the Wolves led a second group south, where they encountered an Iron Horde cannon and a platoon of infantry defending it. A bloody fight erupted around the gun, with the Ironbreakers eventually emerging triumphant, transporting parts of the cannon back to camp for investigation.
Grim led the third group north, where they too found a cannon and its crew. Bloody fighting occurred, while shells from further inland dropped all around them. The Ironbreakers were victorious here too, but took heavy casualties and were forced to withdraw by the sheer volume of artillery landing around them. This group returned to camp dragging an unconscious Iron Horde prisoner.

24th to 26th October - The Ironbreaker Council take advantage of the Iron Horde's attention being elsewhere and further fortify the camp. The Gurubashi trolls travel by sea and join the rest of the Council at the war front.
In an effort to relax through the never ending artillery bombardment on the 26th October the Council members swap stories relevant to Hallow's Eve.

The Flying Bolts investigated the caves to the South on the beach where they found many naga corpses. The naga has clearly been slain by Iron Horde soldiers.
Investigating this further the Bolts discovered an Iron Horde shaman performing an unknown ritual. The Bolts attacked, but were pushed back by the shaman and his defenders! Rallying themselves the Bolts attacked once more, slaying the defenders and gravely wounding the shaman who disappeared in a splash of water!
Upon searching the bodies the Bolts were confused to find many items clearly originating from orcish clans they knew, such as the Warsong.
What could this mean?
The Bolts did the sensible thing and bagged up all the items they found and returned to camp with their findings...

Things have been quiet the last few days, but something bad is building up...

27th October - Rhiga of the Wolves planned an attack on Nethergarde Keep - one small group of Ironbreaker Council troops infiltrated the mines below. They freed several imprisoned and enslaved miners and looted a healthy amount of useful ore but they had walked into a trap...
Realising this at the last second the Ironbreakers escaped just in time and fought their way through the Iron Horde guards to safety, exiting the mine just as it exploded!

The second, larger group mounted a fast raid on the Keep itself. The Ironbreakers rode in hard and fast and slaughtered their way through the heavily armed guards and lay explosive mines around the Keep.
The raid slowed down when a large force of armoured Iron Horde emerged and formed a line. The Ironbreakers lived up to their name, though barely. The Iron Horde line was broken and the troops in it slaughtered, though many of the Ironbreakers were wounded too badly to continue.
The Iron Horde commander stepped out at this point, bellowing for revenge! Banehorn, the elderly tauren shaman, attacked this mighty champion and the two traded blows until the orc fell, dead and Banehorn fell, horribly wounded.
The Ironbreakers took this opportunity to escape, carrying their wounded with them.
Due to the beating they had taken they did not loot the Keep as they had planned.

Upon returning to their fortified camp the Ironbreakers saw to their wounds and discussed their future plans. It was decided that an Ironbreaker Council meeting was to be held in a few days time so the Council could decide on its path forward in this savage war.

28th October - the Marauders went out to stop a scouting party of the Iron Horde travelling along the south edges of Gurubashi territory from the Blasted Lands. Most of the scouting party were lightly armed but had climbing equipment, however the Marauders ran into several strange casters using a strange new magic from the blood of the fallen. The last spellcaster proved a problem until he exploded in a giant ball of blood, with several injured the group returned to base.

How come the epic Red Blade tribe are not participating? Or have they defeated Garrosh already?

IC politics mean there'll be two Horde fronts against the Iron Horde.

Aye, there've been some IC disagreements - Although I reckon we all agree that there's ass which needs kicking! We'll be having a post of our own up in the near future.

The Ironbreaker Council Empty Re: The Ironbreaker Council

Post by Grim Thu Oct 30, 2014 9:31 pm

30th October - Tonight as they planned to mount another raid on the Iron Horde the Ironbreaker's camp was attacked in force.

A large column of Iron Horde infantry marched on the camp, while two artillery pieces opened up a lethal bombardment.

Sca'fon of the Blood Wolves led a desperate raid of the Ironbreaker's best scouts to take down the cannons.
Smashing straight into the cannon's defenders the Ironbreakers hacked their way through to the guns, taking heavy losses as they went.
At the guns the Ironbreakers succeeded in disabling them, preventing them from firing on the camp anymore. Unfortunately, at this moment Marcellius the Forsaken was torn to shreds by a malfunctioning teleport spell, scattering his limbs and torso around the world and leaving his still conscious head behind to be carried home.
However, a counter attack of Iron Horde orcs charged, forcing the wounded but successful Ironbreakers back.
The Ironbreakers only escaped thanks to the heroic sacrifice of Chieftain Himo Blackhorn of the Shatterskull Marauders, who stayed behind to hold off the attacking Iron Horde orcs...

While this was occuring Warseer Grim Stonepaw of the Blood Wolves rallied the Ironbreakers to form a line to defend the camp from the attacking Iron Horde orcs.
The Iron Horde orcs were forced by the fortifications around the camp to attack in small numbers, thanks to Jarilo Stronghoof's work when the camp was first formed.
While the Iron Horde attacked the artillery was firing non-stop, hammering the camp into dust and ashes, setting every building and tent on fire and butchering the majority of the auxiliaries and Death Jesters manning the camp.
The artillery also served to punish the defending Ironbreakers, causing numerous severe wounds and reducing their fighting strength considerably.
Despite this the Ironbreakers mounted a stubborn defence, defeating wave after wave of assaulting Iron Horde heavy infantry.
During the fighting Alpha Mozrogg Doomhowl of the Wolves was severely wounded multiple times, almost to the point of death. Only frantic healing by Catari Bladesinger and Bane Thunderhorn prevented the grizzled orc veteran from dying on the spot.
The attacking Iron Horde orcs were led by a mighty champion, who chose to concentrate his attacks on Lord Grogglefutz of the Flying Bolts. Unused to fighting anything so small the orcish commander couldn't hit the nippy goblin, who fought to his strengths and castrated the Iron orc with a well aimed low-blow of a fireball!

Luckily for the defenders Sca'fon's raiders succeeded in disabling the guns, giving them the necessary breathing space to see off the last remaining attackers.

Once the dust settled and the fires in the camp were extinguished the Ironbreakers stood victorious
But... times are dark. This was the very definition of a pyrrhic victory.
The Iron Horde were beaten back, but at the cost of one of the Ironbreaker Chieftains missing, dead or captured. One of the commanding officers of the Ironbreakers lays wounded and near death. The Ironbreaker camp lies in ruins, all but destroyed. The surviving Ironbreakers almost all bear wounds of varying levels of severity.

There is no way the camp can survive another attack.

Knowing this, Warseer Grim orders a withdrawal, the Ironbreakers will fall back to the elven camp to the South West of the Blasted Lands and regroup.

The Ironbreaker Council Empty Re: The Ironbreaker Council

Post by Sakarah Fri Oct 31, 2014 9:59 am

More fresh faces scattered in. Some on foot, some on worgs, some on wind riders, and others barely at all. Elves stepped through portals, and Goblins came on rockets. As more heard of the ironbreakers attempt to stop these odd Orcs in their path, more risked their lives to reach them. The ringing of canon fire didn’t halt. Horde of all races lowered their heads and made a charging dash for the Ironbreakers camp. Others were struck down before they made it, their bodies lying limp only meters away from the stronghold. Some made it without scratch, and others hobbled in with blood dribbling from their faces.

You would question the experience of a handful of these men and women. Some barely through their teenage years, wearing rusted armour and anxiously clutching their weapons. But somehow, they made it. They did it, and they had a burning courage. Sakarah was somewhat inspired by it, in a way. It was precious. She began working on the wounded ones, one by one they came in a row, scratched and limping, or bleeding all over the place. “I wanna’ stop whatev’ th’ fucks goin’ on here, my life fo’ the ‘orde my bruddah hit da’ Kor’Kron fo’” mumbled a young female Troll next in line. “Don’t got much war trainin’ yet, but I wan’ my body bein’ useful”. Sakarah grunted through her rugged wolf mask. It seemed to be the case many of those willing to risk their lives were of a younger, less briefed stock, whilst the older more experienced veterans shrugged in skepticism thinking it was all a pile of nonsense.

As the newer faces marched in shoddily, some mended and in better shape, whilst others still feeling the suffering from a previous nights shelling. They hovered anxiously in the middle of the camp. Some tried to enlist order, mending weapons, de scaling the rust from the battered plate, hauling boxes and sparring. Others blinked like lost sheep, enthusiasm locked inside their twitching bodies. As Sakarah held her eyes over the faces, she took a deep breath in and boomed; “I ask for honesty. Any who have seek to aid the Ironbreakers without much prior experience in war and battle, line in formation!” There was a sudden stillness. As eyes darted across one another, a gathering of people began lining up. The line was vertical. “You’re not queing for your vegetables. I said formation!” Eyes once again darted up and down the line, and it slowly began to take horizontal shape. “Your enthusiasm and hope are inspiration to us all. You wont last out here. But your lives will serve purpose and honour. Follow my guidance, and you might just be ready for war. If you die before I am finished with you, my Earthmother bless your soul” Another shell sang past, exploding on the other side of camp. The formation line quivered with anxious bodies, with only a handful keeping straight, showing experience on their faces. Sakarah had her work cut out. There was no time for these men and women. But the numbers were needed.

“WE GOT MEN DOWN!” Boomed form the other end of camp. A group of scouts hauling three limp bodies on their shoulders. Sakarah snorted loudly and cracked her knuckles. Would people give me a fucking break, she thought inwardly.

((Basically, Saka is healing and training n00bs whilst I'm away making a new PC. Back on Wednesday for some proper smashing!))

The Ironbreaker Council Empty Re: The Ironbreaker Council

Post by Grim Mon Nov 03, 2014 11:06 pm

3rd November: Tonight the Ironbreaker's Forces got word that the Iron Horde on the Red Reaches had erected a wall to keep the remaining Horde in the Shattered Landing from getting to the Ironbreakers. Though makeshift, it did its job.

On the Ironbreaker's side of the wall, Iron Orcs took over the shore and an old Naga cave. They planned to use this as a place to assault the Sunveil encampment and Surwich.
The Ironbreakers pressed along the main path with a few other horde members taking the shoreline, to annihilate any Iron Horde on their side of the Red Reaches.
They ended up victorious and now Tarak'jin is making a plan to bring down the wall and take out the relentless assaulting Orcs on the Shattered landing, allowing more Horde forces to move back there and re-build what was destroyed.

4th November

A group of Ironbreakers decided to take a zeppelin to the Altar of Storms in an attempt to do some politics with the local Ogres. The trip didn't go as planned and though they put up a fight, the Iron Horde managed to shoot down their zeppelin. Half of the goblin crew lost their lives in the incident and the rest came off with bruises as the zeppelin crashed by the Altar of Storms. They build emergency fortifications from the remains of the zeppelin to hold them secured.

Of course their crash landing didn't go unnoticed and they soon had a wellcoming commitee of ogres approach. Talk with the ogres didn't go so well and ended in blood and guts on the sand. The group managed to capture one of the ogres for questioning later. For now, they are trying to build up the fortifications and come up a plan to get back to the Ironbreaker base to join the rest of the troops.

5th November

The group of Ironbreakers stranded on the Altar of Storms managed to salvage whatever they could from the destroyed zeppelin and managed to make their way back to the base mostly unharmed through the ogre and Iron Horde, thinning the pass to the Tainted Forest for both theirs and alliance troop's favour. They have also managed to bring their ogre prisoner with them to the base camp.

After arriving to the camp, they received a message that the rest of the Ironbreakers were making an assault to reclaim the Shattered Landing and made their way over to join the main forces.

With the aid of Alliance, the Ironbreakers managed to tear down the barricades between the Red Reaches and Shattered Landing, driving the Iron Horde back and once again, reclaiming the Shattered Landing for the Horde forces.

The Ironbreaker Council Empty Re: The Ironbreaker Council

Post by Grim Thu Nov 06, 2014 10:58 pm

6th November: After Iron Horde reinforcements pushed the defenders of the newly retaken Shattered Landing back a small group of Ironbreakers, led by Elaria of the Wolves, attacked!
Banners of the Blood Wolves, Flying Bolts, Shatterskull Marauders and Gurubashi Empire were placed on the camp, surrounded by corpses of slain Iron Horde warriors!
During this conflict much carnage ensued and culminated with a demolisher tank's reactor exploding, totally demolishing the camp.

A second group scouted the rear of the Dark Portal trying to find a safe and secure route there. Led by Sca'fon of the Wolves they clambered up and down rocks, finding a perfect route only to find it defended by large numbers of Iron Horde scouts and snipers.
Some clever tricks resulted in the Iron Horde ogres attacking the scouts in confusion and the Ironbreakers emerged with all the information they required and a healthy victory under their belts.

A third group, led by Grim of the Wolves travelled deeper into the Blasted Lands to scout out the main entrance to the Dark Portal.
En route they found some scouts, and quickly butchered them.
Moving further on the Wolves saw the huge number of defenders around the Portal. They also saw a large column of Iron Horde infantry marching from the Portal.
The Ironbreakers laid traps along the road and lay in wait for the Iron Horde. The column struck the traps and was disordered, taking many casualties. However, the majority survived and attacked the Ironbreakers!
The Ironbreakers took heavy casualties, with half their number wounded severely in mere moments, forcing Grim to sound the retreat.
The Ironbreakers retreated, dragging their wounded behind them.

Meanwhile, a goblin merchant bearing scavenged supplies entered camp, trying to sell them. The scavenged parts turned out to be the body, journal and scientific instruments of the missing Blood Wolf Alpha, Dr. Danroth Bastlig. These were all purchased from the goblin and aided Elaria in proving to a high degree of chance that the Iron Horde may indeed hail from an alternate Draenor.

After the fighting was over the Ironbreakers hold both Sunveil Excursion and the Shattered Landing, though many Ironbreakers lie wounded and incapacitated.

Representatives of Bloodmark's Banners entered Sunveil Excursion, and harsh words were exchanged between one of them and Grim. Though, this perhaps had more to do with Catari and Grim's past history than any political differences...

The leaders of the Ironbreakers then began to plan how and what to do about entering the Portal. Voices were raised and tempers flared, before the Council leaders decided to rest and speak again with clearer heads.

The Ironbreaker Council Empty Re: The Ironbreaker Council

Post by Grim Tue Nov 11, 2014 7:41 am

November 10th: The Blood Wolves left camp alone to hold a Wolf's Council. During this meeting the coming attack on the Dark Portal was discussed, with every Blood Wolf voting no to joining the main attack, but yes to mount their own sneak attack.

The next vote was held to determine which Blood Wolves would opt not to cross through the Portal. Again, the Wolves voted unanimously to cross through, knowing full well that to do so was likely to be suicide.

The final discussions were on tactics and strategy. Sakarah was tasked with gathering medical supplies, Danroth with scientific supplies, Tobemory with food supplies and Jarilo Stronghoof with weaponry and armour repair supplies.
Sca'fon was tasked with organising a means to get the Clan's mounts through the mountains.

It was agreed that once through the Portal the Blood Wolves would aid the war effort but largely keep themselves to themselves. Links to the other Ironbreaker Council members would be kept but the Clan would return to what it knew best.

Then the Clan conducted a ritual to summon their patron, the spirit of the Blood Wolf. The Blood Wolf appeared and reaffirmed its choice of the orc Taghra as its champion, while also choosing the giant tauren Threehorns as its new champion, claiming the coming fight would be tough enough to require two.

The Blood Wolf gave the Clan its blessing but told them it needed their help. The Blood Wolf had been forced to take physical form on Draenor and was dying - the Clan must find it and give it strength before it faded away for good. If the Blood Wolf died, then so would the Clan...

Finally, returning to camp the Clan got busy organising for the coming attack. While there the Shatterskull Marauders informed Grim that they would accompany the Clan on its sneak attack due to the arrogant actions of one of the Red Blade.
Grim also spoke to the Gurubashi trolls, asking them to do their best to keep the Azeroth side of the Portal safe. Oba'tiye of the Empire agreed to discuss this with the Empress.

Finally, Dr. Danroth Bastlig was returned to unlife with the aid of the mage Elaria. Straight away the crazed doctor had an idea!
He now knew how to potentially repair Grim's crippled leg, and Grim eagerly agreed, undergoing major surgery in a tent in camp. It remains to be seen if the surgery was succesful or not!

The Ironbreaker Council Empty Re: The Ironbreaker Council

Post by Grim Wed Nov 12, 2014 9:35 pm

12th November

The Ironbreakers split into three groups to assault the Dark Portal!

Sca'fon led one group to clear the way of Iron Horde scouts and snipers.
Jarilo Stronghoof led another to destroy the Iron Horde artillery at the rear of the Portal.
Grim Stonepaw led the third group to wipe out the Iron Horde infantry defending the rear of the Portal.

Mountains were traversed and rocks clambered down to get there but each attack worked perfectly. The Iron Horde defenders were wiped out or put to flight, allowing the Ironbreakers access to the Portal which they promptly stepped through into the unknown...

The Gurubashi trolls stayed behind, promising to defend the way home. But, can they be trusted?!

Many Ironbreakers were wounded, and dragged along by their comrades. Bane the elder shaman fell in battle, dying honourably to ensure the Ironbreakers' success.

OOC NOTES:

The Ironbreaker Council experiment started by accident. None of us had any intention of it coming into existence, but due to RP it did.
And it couldn't have gone better!

It's been an absolute blast so thank you to all you lovely Ironbreakers who took part, and thank you to those Hordies in the Banners who we worked relatively closely with for a harmonious experience.

A big thank you to the Flying Bolts and the Marauders - this Council worked because you're all so cool and because of your willingness to run events.

Another thank you to the Gurubashi! It's fun having people we don't trust in the Council!

And thanks to the Warsong Blades for showing up right at the end and showing us how its supposed to be done!

Finally, thank you to my own lovely guild for putting up with me stressing about stuff.

And actually finally, a special thank you to Sca'fon / Skaraa and Jarilo / Elaria for being my elite DM team. I couldn't have organised my bits without you two supporting me.

See you all in Draenor-of-Old!
