Request: Trade Forum

This is something I've been meaning to ask for awhile.

While Skarain's efforts with the Exchange are commendable, I believe a stickied thread is ultimately a flawed trade mechanism. It prevents people from bumping their own items and having it immediately seen by other posters (it only bumps the thread itself, without immediately showing what item is actually desired), and it limits discussion on individual requests. It also doesn't really support people offering items for sale, or people offering crafting services, or requesting miscellaneous services (such as Sorayah's gold transfer thread).

I'd recommend removing the Exchange sticky and to instead open an Exchange forum, where people can post their own WTS/WTB topics. Most other MMO RP forums I have been to have had these, and in my experience they work much better as a facilitator of trade than a single thread.


Speaking of stickied threads, I believe there needs to be a cleanup of the ones we have on this forum. There are two chat channel stickies, of which the older no-longer-updated one should be removed. Additionally, the stickied thread for the writing contest that was completed ages ago, as well as Meln's old Chronicles thread, should be removed. The Population thread and the Guides thread also no longer seem to be updated... it would be nice if we could get someone new to keep those in order.

That's actually what prompted this thread. I feel like if it had been posted in a dedicated trade forum, rather than the Game Discussion area, it wouldn't have attracted the kind of off-topic posts it did. Trade forum topics are, in my experience, usually very focused and rarely derailed.

Eh, that requires additional clicking, and also means that people may not notice it. Not a huge fan of sub-forums myself. I prefer to get a good look at everything right on the main page.

Would probably work better than the exchange. Just smack some guidelines of what details are recommended when trading and sticky such on top of a Trade Forum

Works also fine by me as i'll have less time to forum scourge after a month or so, when the year changes and i'll turn absent.

Howdy folks! Just wanted to jump in and say I'm on board with this idea, and a discussion will be underway with the rest of the mods soon (if it isn't already). I've a bit more free time on my hands over the next few days, so I'll be performing a clean up of the stickied threads across the forum as well.

If anyone has any threads they believe should be stickied, or any of the currently stickied ones that need to remain, please reply here or throw me a PM so I don't step on any toes!
