Re: The "other game thread"
xD I find Aragon&England extremely useful when playing Portugal (yes, new game, yes, Portugal again). Aragon keeps Castille nutbolted and gives me reasons to fight them, England&Portugal is a dominating combo at sealanes. Although, I must say, England pisses me right off - they always just snatch whatever they can and end the war they dragged me in for the 235423432th time. Every single time. x.x Maybe I should backstab them and invade the island... hmmm... But not yet. I'll dissect France first. Africa gives me plenty of resources. Vassalized Morocco/Mali (after taking the gold-producing provinces =D), Tunis, Tripoli, Algiers, colonized several more areas on the West Coast. Waiting to get them as cores before I spread even more (I do -not- like having 25% core provinces. Plus it'd give acceptance to the african cultures, when they get accepted = profit).Halya wrote:Just started an EU file as Pommerania. 1406, and France is under personal union with Aragon.
PS: Did I mention how I love splitting the Ottomans in two by parking my huge c- ..fleet between Bursa/Bithynia and Thrace/Edirne? :D:D It's fun watching them squirm a 35k army left and right in Greece, unable to cross the sea while I merrily occupy the entire nation with 1k infantry

That's how you save Byzantium.
I remember a multiplayer game where I was playing as Naples and there was a player was going to be Ottomans, but then swapped to Byzantium. Christ he scared me. Never mind we were allies for about 9/10ths of the campaign. I helped him reclaim Greece proper at the game start, and by 'the fall of Byzantium' i.e. 1453, he had over 300 galleys parked in the straits.

Oh yeah, I suppose I should mention that I now have Terraria.
How're the rest of you doing in the game? Already in end-game gear?

Twittered today. God knows they'll need them - the smallest damn ghetto in the Witcher 2 is more memorable than the entirety of Kirkwall."I'm looking for exceptional environment artists to join me at #BioWare Edmonton, Canada to work on #DragonAge3 #gamejobs #jobs #3D #artists,"

By the way, are there still DB people playing Terraria together? There was a mention of a Hamachi server earlier on.

That looks very fake. Mostly because they'd never "let slip" that they'd be working on DA3 that way. It'd be in an official press release when it's more than halfway done. Not a employment ad little more than 2 months after the release of DA2.
They're also not seeking enviroment artists at the moment according to their website(they are however seeking one senior enviromental artist, but that seems to be for all their franchises)

Hmm... interesting...
Odd that they'd let something like that slip without a press release... that'd be a first in fact. They never have.
I mean... if it was only once I could believe it was simply a mistype... but twice can't be a mistake...

Re: The "other game thread"
If I were to wager a guess, I don't think it's so much 'let slip' rather than an attempt to get people for the position on a relatively short notice. Twitter has become such a popular medium that it probably garners more attention than their official job applications list.
And, let's be honost here, DA3 was always more a question of when rather than if what with it now being confirmed as one of EA's primary franchises (for all the good that might do). Not even mentioning the "Hai guiz dar be seakual" ending.
Nevertheless, I'd expect an announcement forthcoming during this year's E3, which isn't too far off.
Cheers Nay, Matt Rhodes is pretty awesome.

Yeah, I suppose so. That it comes this soon is slightly concerning though. Especially if they're already seeking enviromental artists. It sort of hints that they don't intend to spend much more thought on DA2, though I admit I don't see how it could be expanded. But still...And, let's be honost here, DA3 was always more a question of when rather than if what with it now being confirmed as one of EA's primary franchises (for all the good that might do). Re: The "other game thread"
Kirkwall year 1 (found it so silly they exluded that), some story mission PoV's from your party members (Issabella nabbing the qunari relic f.e.), maybe something Flemeth related (wishfull thinking). Those'd be good options, but knowing the DA team's DLC track record it'll probably be something rushed and uninspired (Witch Hunt, ugh). Thinking of it, the Stone Golem was actually the only DLC I really enjoyed. Been awefully quiet after the preposterously expensive item packs tho, so who knows. It sort of hints that they don't intend to spend much more thought on DA2, though I admit I don't see how it could be expanded. But still...
And because I can't keep hyping this enough.

Re: The "other game thread"
Don't let your infamy go too high (it decreases over time and with some modifiers - special advisor, embassy, current ruler's diplomatic ability etc), or shit hits the fan.
Get Heir to the Throne and Divine Wind too (edit: Chronicles has them all), they have very good modifications to how the game works.
After a naval battle, try to dock your ships to repair/raise morale again.
If an enemy army is defeated and you have high morale, follow them if you can, chances are you'll completely destroy them if you catch them on low morale.
Don't be afraid to have more ships than your limit - they are more expensive than infantry to build, but much cheaper to maintain.
Be careful of attrition damage your units take in each province (yours or otherwise).
Keep good track of who goes where. Pause and mouseover are your friends.
Position your armies well, before starting a war. Speaking of which: try to always have a casus beli. And, since shit happens and life's unfair, swarm a country's provinces with your army, if you have military access and they are allied with the country you declare war to - they will have to declare war too, and you won't suffer the normal penalty of declaring a war on a country you have military access to, since they are the ones declaring war, so you get to blitz them out of the foreground swiftly and use their terrain to mount your attack to the main enemy ^^
If you are in a war with multiple nations, and you completely defeat a smaller nation in that alliance which you don't have much to gain from, keep it occupied and idle, to use the "war points" from it in your treaty negotiation with the "lead" nation.
You can afford having negative balance in your budget (in fact, it's actually good) - as long as that negative balance doesn't exceed what you get from direct tax yearly. Mouseover the income icon on the top, for more info.
Hummm. Can't think of more atm, but feel free to prod me on skype for any question ^^
PS: Which nation are you playing? Or haven't decided one yet?

Re: The "other game thread"
Ah, most of these I already knew from playing other paradox games, informative nonetheless.
I'm trying to learn using Castille, did the first few years a few times over as each time I discovered something new. Going to start again after a disastrous war in North Africa and some other missteps.

Here's my little EU3 project aka FINLANDSTRONG.
I'd say I managed to turn the tables on Sweden and Novgorod quite nicely.

Re: The "other game thread"
Along with a wide variety of game mechanics and general approach to governance.
EU is about exploration, war, and how you cope with where you put your free trade slider.
Victoria is about gently nudging your population to achieve the effects you want. For example, Argentina starts as a presidential dictatorship. This means the government is made up entirely of reactionary ministers, who will only seek to roll back political and social freedoms. This cabinet is formed only members of the ruling party, and since there are no elections, they will always be the same ministers.
So, you use the fact they are willing to roll freedoms back, and change how your cabinet is formed to be composed of only rich people.
You then tax your rich people as hard as you can, and put exorbitant tariffs on foreign goods. Your rich people will react two ways - some of them will stop being rich - and some of them will suddenly decide that maybe the country could afford to change. Their mindsets will change to more liberal ones, and they will become liberal ministers instead of reactionary ones.
Then, once you have enough of these newly liberal ministers, you can start passing laws for political freedom. The most important of these is to allow voting for government - this will break the presidential dictatorship and turn you in to a democracy.
Which has all sorts of benefits, and some rather restrictive drawbacks, albeit different ones to having a dictatorship. And the whole game involves processes like that, juggled simultaneously, along with world wide diplomacy and of course, the potential for warfare.

Re: The "other game thread"
Just got King Arthur (the role-playing wargame), were the wargame part capturing territory and fighting other armies in battles that remind me a bit of Total War, and the rpg part is were you get quests (That can be both battles and completely text based), that reward resources, equipment en spouses that you can wed to your knight. Knights being your heroes of the round table, every army has a hero leading them. The captured territories can be put under leadership of knights, the knights and their wives have character attributes that impact how well your territories do. And, it's a fantasy game, etc. etc.
I have fun and I've learned to never take an important location if the one I took it from still has an army there.
A tip:

A tip:
- Spoiler:
- The enemy can take Camelot if you don't watch out and then you'll have to win it back!

Spesssh MAHREEN
If I knocked down a shot of Vodka every time I hear a developer say "New and Exciting" or "like you've never seen before", I'd probably be an alcoholic dying of liver failure right now.
That aside, the montage (read; loads of gore) is certainly flashy. Just afraid the only sellingpoint of it is going to be the 40k label, with questionable gameplay.
