Re: The "other game thread"
Still on my first play through, but didn't get it until friday and couldn't start playing until about 1500... Otherwise I think I would be on my second by now.

- Spoiler:
- Now nearing the end of act three after doing every single side/companion/secondary quest in the game. I did wonder where the hell the story of the game was going for awhile at the start but its nice that its leading to confliction between a war with the circle and the templars of Kirkwall. Maybe not a save the world scenario like the blight in DA1 but it's just as interesting.
Anders completely fucked my mind in trusting him with his "Justice" quest only for him to fuel the flame that would piss everyone off by blowing up the chantry instead, wow. Did anyone else see that one coming?
EDIT: I'm assuming if they do make a dragon age 3. That the warden and perhaps Hawke will make a direct appearance. Tho in that regard they'd have to give the warden a voice I suppose. Just assumptions really.

That seemed like a horrid tactic..... Did anyone of those soldiers carry anything to break down a gate with!?
Still looks fun though.

Warning, DA2 plot spoilers.
- Spoiler:
- Anders took me quite by surprise too. I realised rather quickly that "Sala Petra" was salpeter and the moment he asked for me to distract the Grand Cleric I realised he was making explosives. I thought he was going to blow up the phylacteries (which in Ferelden is stored in the chantry in denerim, I figured the same applied here) though... not quite what he actually did (though I had a nagging fear for half the act that the grand cleric was going to die).
The plot was awesome though. I loved every minute of it (I also cannot see why people thought the plot was hard to follow though). I think I'm even going to go so far as to say it was, in my opinion, the best plot Bioware has ever done (possibly with the exception of the Baldur's Gate games). I forsee lots of replayability for it too... if nothing else only to see what would have happened if I had done Y instead of X.
Also, Varric, Aveline, Ser Thrask, Grand Cleric Elthina, Meredith, Orsino and the Arishok were all just awesome.

Re: The "other game thread"
Yeah Bioware did a really good job for the story. There's alot of complaints on people wondering what the hell the story is about but if they actually played it, doing all the quests and actually reading all the conversations it would all eventually make sense. A turn from the usual save the world scenario but really proves interesting for a possible DA3.
EDIT:
- Spoiler:
- Also I laughed at Flemeth's appearance. Atleast we now know our efforts of killing her in DA1 was really in vain more than we thought. I wonder how many times she can multiply herself. Also. Statues. Many statues. DEAL WITH 'EM.
Played the game as a mage. It seems Hawke is officially intended to be a magi afterall as there's alot of talk on her part of being an apostate and all in a templar city. Plus I screwed up and lost carver to the deeproads so I am not sure how effective his story is if he survives by being a grey warden or not going and becoming a templar as he is suppose to.
I liked Sebastian, Varric, Elthina, Meredith and the Arishok mostly. Aveline and Isabella had their laughs on random party banter when those two were together. Tho I dont like the fact they made Isabela go all "Sex, sex, sex?".
Hmmh and as far as recurring characters go from DAO in terms of your main group. There's Zevran, Leliana and Alistair. Missing anyone else?
EDIT:
- Spoiler:
- Also loved the part of Hawke's mother. Is there a way to avoid that fate however?

- Did anyone else have a nice laugh on Varric's companion quest when he exagerated his "epic battle" against his brother in his house with all the guards? That was so awesome

Re: The "other game thread"
Finished Dragon age 2 now, at least. Hoping for a third.
Supopse the main complaint I have is that most of the male companions, Varric being a beautiful exception, were.. so.. damned.. whiny.

- Spoiler:
- I found myself wanting to stab both Anders and Fenris on numerous occasions. And I was sitting with my jaw on the desk when Anders blew up the god damned chantry. What kind of idiotic plan was that?!
The mother part was really touching, indeed. I have this vague hope that the Hero of Ferelden and Hawke will both return in the third. I'd love to play the former again, because well, it was awesome! I kind of miss some of the party members from Origins, because I think they sucked the personality out of some in DA:2. Mostly the males. Ugh.
Have to say though, biggest "wtf" was Meredith's blade ;D I was like "Oh, shit - this is my fault, isn't it?"

Re: The "other game thread"
I completed it early this morning, I thought it was very good but there was a great deal that dissapointed me. Most of those dissapointments will go away as I play through a few more times taking different choices. But my biggest one is how they fixed the pace, through the entire game no dungeon lasted too long, nothing began to bore me. Then towards the end they through two bosses and a long series of repetative fights that lasted FAR too long.
One thing they did perfectly however was carry on the lore/feel/theme of the game. Everything new felt right and they took the right risks and pulled no punches. Absolutely spectacular.
I'm looking forward to number Three, but considering it's development hasn't even been announced or confirmed, I think they've left a little too much unanswered.
Considering your choice of companions and their impact on the game I felt very very strongly rail roaded towards certain choices throughout the game. I'm interested to see how differently it works out with different choices. My guess is not very much, events will happen the same way, people will just be more pissed off with you.
Can't wait to play it again though...

Genevieve, development on DA2 started a mere week after Origins launched. I have no doubt they're already planning DA3.

I'm currently trying to play DA2. And the only goddamn thing thats keeping me from uninstalling that retarded mess of an excuse for an RPG is Varric. Fuck all the other companions. Actually, fuck everyone in the entire game. Fuck them all.

I adore Varric. He's so badass it's amazing. I want to be him. o___o If only the other companions were as interesting..
The only thing for now that pisses me off is: "Hello we noticed you bought DA2, would you be interested in buying a DLC for more money with stuff that should have been in the game? *insert trollface here*"

Everywhere I've looked, the characters and story has been described as weak. That, and the setting which is just another medieval Europe clone turned Grimdark will probably keep me from buying it

In all honesty those reviewers are probably the sort who think Lord of the Rings is allegory for Europe at varius points in the 20th centuary. Besides Antiva/Orlais bearing clear resemblance to certain charicaturs of European states I cannot see it.
This may not sound like praise to people who don't appreciate this sort of thing but I'd have bought the game even if there was no combat, just to experiance the cutscenes, conversations, and story.
Some of the characters are weak, but I think people are overly harsh, desperate to find the smallest crack in a game that's prequal was almost universally praised. I myself thought the companions let the game down, compared to the companions in Origins, but some of them are fantastic. I think I'd be less annoyed by the choice of companions if all the irritating ones weren't the ones I'd advise taking for game mechanics reasons.

Re: The "other game thread"
Saali, in my humble opinion the story is fantastic and the characters great. Opinions will of course vary widely, but I see nothing bad with it at all. It is worth mentioning that DA2 have gotten a lot of "bad press" because it is not DAO. There's even people out there intent on ruining the game's image just to punish Bioware for not making the game they wanted. That's not to say there aren't people out there who genuinely dislikes the game, it's story and it's characters.
I would also not call it Grimdark, it is not bleak to the point of no hope. It is a living world, both as fantastic and as horrible as the real world is.

Oh, I had a lenghty discussion with Daivd Gaider on the Bioware boards about the setting, and he flat out admitted that Ferelden was Scotland, Orlais France and Antiva the italian city states (or, "inspired by"). That's a huge turnoff for me, yet I trudged through DA:O a few times.
Of the DA2 plot, I've read that there isn't a motivating over-arching drama or noticable narrative later in the game, or, if it's there it gets drowned in a flood of sidequests.
I heard something about recycled dungeons as well? That's just poop
