[W-PVP] The Scepter of Light Empty [W-PVP] The Scepter of Light

Post by Gunnell Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:55 pm

BACKGROUND

The Scepter of Light. Little is known of this artifact, though legends speak that it is powerful enough to sink entire cities. Azore Aldamorthas, an Archmage of the Argent Dawn tasked a band of mercenaries and adventurers to retrieve the Scepter of Light from the Thunder Axe Fortress in Desolace. While the scepter was guarded, the more difficult part of the mission was returning the scepter to the archmage; the scepter was intelligent, and it compelled the user to return it to its master — a long dead Highborne elf in the ruins now known as Dire Maul in Feralas

The heroes fought the intelligence of the object and returned it to Azore. He then asked them to accompany him to Dire Maul to show the object the truth about its former master. Part way through their journey the power of the Scepter proved too much for many of the band who promptly attempted to murder their comrades and fled deep into the gray, rocky wastelands of Desolace.

For some time the legend regarding the Scepter of Light faded from the minds of most, becoming little more than a campfire story used to entertain enterprising adventures by the local Goblin merchants. Seemingly out of nowhere, rumors quickly spread that the Scepter has once more been uncovered by the warring Centaur tribes of Desolace. Major powers have now taken interest in the item, although most dare not waste resources on what may only be a fool pointless venture. Only the Magram and Gelkis clans know the truth...

THE CAMPAIGN

The Scepter of Light is a plot driven, WPvP Campaign based in Desolace taking place over the course of five days. Why Desolace? Because the lore, and environment are perfect for such battles and a good send off to one of the less 'famous' zones within the game before it becomes lush and green upon the Cataclysm.

The basic plot was spawned from a brief series of events within Theramore Isle and the campaign itself is focused on the Scepter of Light (Some of you may remember the brief quest line for that damned five minute swim) and the two warring Centaur clans of the Magram and Gelkis. Both the Western Alliance and the Horde are dubious over the other factions use of such a power should they gain it and as such have deployed expeditionary forces to the wastelands. Only the Magram and Gelkis clans known of the true resting place of the scepter and as to prevent their rival faction from gaining both loyalty and information both sides make a bid for the two clans.

The Campaign itself is split into five battles (one per day) and whilst the side who manages to win most of the battles is considered to be the victor, how the final battle for the scepter pans out will also have an effect on the outcome.

LOCATIONS
The five primary battles of the campaign will take place at these locations:

Nijel's Point
Nijel's Point is an Alliance outpost located in the northern mountains of Desolace. Nobody seems to know who Nijel is or was, not even the people living there. Most probably, he was the founder of the ancient town there which now lie in ruins.

Nijel's Point is the Alliance's primary headquarters and staging point for the campaign.

Magram Village
Magram Village is a centaur village, home of the Magram clan. It is located in the southeastern area of Desolace on the shores and islands of a series of polluted yellow pools. Magram’s culture has developed into revolving around strength worship above all else.

Gelkis Village
Gelkis Village is located just to the east and slightly south of Shadowprey Village in southwestern Desolace. It is the principle village of the Gelkis clan of centaur, and is situated in a ring around a large ravine. While the Magram only respect strength, the Gelkis respect nature and their birthmother Theradras, calling upon her protection and the power of earth to maintain their existence.

Shadowprey Village
Shadowprey Village is located on the southern end of the coast of Desolace. This village is home to a number of professional troll fishermen, whose catches help supply food to the Ghost Walker Post and are always in high demand.

Shadowprey Village is the Horde's primary headquarters and staging point for the campaign.

Unknown Location
The resting place of the Scepter of Light. Whilst its location is as of yet unknown to the major powers it will no doubt become the main point of fighting in the whole campaign.

THE WORKS

Initially there are four points of contestation, one being fought for a day, with the fifth being revealed on the final day. Each faction begins with one location under their control which will serve as their primary base. Should the faction loose it's headquarters they are considered to have lost - This makes it possible for the campaign's victor to be decided before the final battle however said battle will still go ahead.

Battles

There are two types of battle in the campaign - Conquest and Defence. They are simple enough to understand so excuse me if I make this sound complicated.

Conquest (Magram Village, Gelkis Village, The Final Battle)
Both sides will gather at opposite sides of the battlefield, before meeting headlong in the centre. The two sides will then (obviously) fight until one side has been wiped out or retreated. The victors will pull back slightly, allowing the losers to respawn and regroup (No player made be killed again until they were resurrected during the fighting). This process will be repeated 4 times - Should one side win 3/4 fights they are considered the victor. If a side wins 2/2 of the battles then the final side standing (The one who wins the final skirmish) is considered the winner of that battle. Observers/leaders from both sides will be on hand should issues arise about this.

Last Stand (Nijel's Point, Shadowprey Village)
The defending side (Alliance at Nijel's Point, Horde at Shadowprey Village) are left to set up their defences within the town limits. At the designated time the opposing faction will begin their assault. If the attackers wipe out the defenders they must pull back to the edge of the town to allow the defenders a brief chance to respawn and reorganise before beginning again. After 15-30 minutes (This is being discussed) the side who are considered in control of the location are the victors (For example if the defenders have pushed the Horde back to the 'ramp' of Nijels Point at 20:15 they are considered to have won. As before, marshals will be on hand should issues crop up.

Skirmishes
Skirmishes are small, isolated fights that do not have a direct impact on the campaign. There are no set rules regarding these as they are not properly organised. For example, a officer may ask for volunteers to patrol the roads or scout an area. They come across a similar Horde group and engage in battle with them. Back at the headquarters this could lead to further RP should the patrol come back with men missing or in need of medical attention for example.

Rough map (To be updated):

A date has yet to be decided for the campaign and (the finer) details regarding taking part will be presented shortly. Please note that this thread and idea are still a work in progress and are still being updated.

Hopefully this might include visits to some of the less-seen parts of Desolace like the Shadow Council outpost east of the Magram village.
